In this article, we will share what we learned from requesting an online quote and calling the Farmers Insurance quote line about Roadside Assistance & Towing coverage! Learn about the cost, how it works, and what other options are available.
Is Farmers Insurance Roadside Assistance & Towing Worth It?
For existing Farmers Insurance policyholders, adding Roadside Assistance to your auto insurance for a couple of dollars a month is worth it. Roadside Assistance can become expensive, and $150 per claim is worth a bit of change every month.
For potential customers, there are other options for roadside assistance.
Our advice: Only select Farmers Insurance if they have the best overall quote for your coverage needs. You may find that other roadside assistance and towing services offer more robust coverage that make obtaining roadside assistance & towing services less expensive when you need them. Farmers currently has a maximum claim benefit of $150 for their program which means actually receiving assistance or a tow is likely to cost you out of pocket. While their pricing is reasonable, their program may not cover everything you want or need.
What Is Covered By Farmers Insurance Roadside Assistance & Towing?

What Are Other Options for Similar Coverage?
If you’re not a Farmers Insurance auto insurance policyholder, you don’t have to become one to get roadside assistance coverage. Options are available through other auto insurance or travel insurance companies.
For example, USAA offers a Roadside Assistance package with similar coverage and pricing but tends to have cheaper annual premiums than Farmers Insurance.
Allstate Insurance also offers Roadside Assistance memberships to non-policy holders. Coverage starts at $89 per year. A pay-per-use option through Allstate also covers towing costs beyond $149.
AAA offers Roadside Assistance Plans starting at $38.50 per year and a premier membership for $91.75 that covers up to 200 miles of towing. The benefit of this coverage is that it covers you as a driver and as a passenger, regardless of the vehicle.
While many of these other benefits may cost more than the list price for Farmers Insurance, the difference would easily be covered by a more competitive auto insurance policy.
Conclusion: Should You Add Roadside Assistance & Towing to Your Policy?
If you’re an existing auto policyholder through Farmers Insurance, adding Roadside coverage for about $2 per month is savvy coverage to add. Having fuel delivery, towing, and locksmith services coverage is important coverage to have. But, if you want to be covered for more that $150 per claim, you’ll want to consider other options.
