Tips to Lower Insurance Premiums in Nevada

Drivers in Nevada can follow these tips to maximize discounts and minimize insurance premiums:

  • Choose basic plans: Choosing liability-only insurance saves money but offers less-expansive coverage.
  • Boost your credit: Drivers with poor credit pay 67% more for their car insurance than the average driver. Improving your credit score can get you access to cheaper insurance premiums.
  • Don’t buy straight away: Don’t buy the first policy you see. Taking the time to compare policies can give you an insight into the cheaper insurance policies available.
  • Be consistent: Search for coverage plans vigilantly. Checking for new policies every six months or so can keep your premiums low in the long term.

Research Methodology

We used an in-state address to identify the cheapest used vehicles to insure to provide the most relevant and accurate data for drivers in Nevada. We applied the Nevada address with a basic driver profile to research the 45 aforementioned vehicles through an insurance quote generator.

Basic Driver Profile

  • 35-year-old-male with a bachelor’s degree
  • Single and employed full time
  • Homeowner but did not bundle policies
  • Owns the vehicle rather than leases or finances it
  • Has been with the current insurance carrier for five or more years

We used vehicles on the IIHS 2021 Top Safety Pick+ 2021 list. The IIHS is an independent, nonprofit organization that collects safety data for cars on the market.

We used the following limits for liability-only quotes:

  • $100,000/$300,000 liability limits
  • $100,000 property damage limits
  • $10,000 personal injury protection

For the full-coverage quotes, we included the following coverages with the liability selections:

  • $1,000 deductible on collision coverage
  • $1,000 deductible for comprehensive coverage
  • $50/$1,500 rental reimbursement
  • $100 roadside assistance

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cheapest SUV to insure in Nevada?

The cheapest SUV to insure in Nevada is the 2021 Subaru Forester. It costs $59 for a full-coverage policy and $21 for a liability-only insurance policy.

Are older cars cheaper to insure?

Older cars are cheaper to insure because they’re less valuable. They also cost less to repair and replace, lowering insurance prices.

How much liability insurance is required in Nevada?

In Nevada, drivers need a policy with a minimum coverage of $25,000 for bodily injury or death per person per accident, $50,000 for bodily injury or death of two or more in a single accident, and $20,000 for injury or destruction of property in a single accident.

What is the penalty for driving without insurance in Nevada?

Nevada uses a tiered system to penalize driving without insurance in the state. For a first offense, you could be fined up to $1,250. This escalates to $1,500 and then $1,750 for repeat offenses within five years of the first offense.

The state can also suspend your license for a minimum of 30 days after three offenses. Drivers must prove they have acquired insurance to get their licenses reinstated.

What is the basic insurance for a car?

The most basic insurance for a car is liability-only insurance. It covers your car for damage caused by your driving but doesn’t cover you for theft or damage done by others. If you are leasing a car, your lender may require you to carry extra insurance, such as comprehensive collision insurance.

What car has the highest insurance rates?

Cars that cost the most to insure include supercars and luxury sports cars. The cost of manufacturing and production of these vehicles increases their insurance premiums. Vintage cars are also expensive to insure because sourcing replacement parts for them is difficult and costly.
