Drivers in Vermont can follow these tips to maximize discounts and minimize insurance premiums:

  • Check Your Eligibility for Discounts:  You could be eligible for discounted car insurance by bundling plans or having a good driving record.
  • Pass a Defensive Driving Class:  Defensive driving classes can lead to auto insurance discounts lasting multiple years.
  • Compare Your Options:  Shopping around for different insurance providers can lower your insurance premium significantly.
  • Opt for Minimal Coverage:  Liability-only insurance coverage is cheaper than more comprehensive policies, making it a great option if you can’t afford a full-coverage plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cheapest SUV to insure in Vermont?

The 2021 Volvo XC60 is the cheapest used SUV to insure in Vermont at $227 per month for a full-coverage policy.

Are older cars cheaper to insure?

Older cars are cheaper to insure because they are less valuable than new vehicles. Older cars are also cheaper to repair and replace parts, making insurance policies less expensive for these vehicles.

How much liability insurance is required in Vermont?

In Vermont, drivers need car insurance with a bodily injury liability of $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident, property damage liability coverage of $10,000 per accident, and uninsured motorist coverage of at least $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident, and $10,000 for property damage.

What is the penalty for driving without insurance in Vermont?

Driving without insurance in Vermont can accrue a fine of $100 and up to $500 for repeat offenders. Drivers can also have their licenses suspended until they can prove that they have completed their suspension period and acquired the proper insurance. Some courts will order drivers to get an SR-22.

What is the basic insurance for a car?

Basic car insurance is liability-only insurance. This policy covers damage caused by the insured driver. There are other levels of auto insurance, however, and lenders may require more extensive coverage, such as comprehensive and collision insurance.

What car has the highest insurance rates?

Sports, luxury, and rare vehicles have the highest insurance rates. Their replacement is expensive, so insuring them is too. Classic cars are also costly to insure because car makers no longer produce them, so sourcing parts for repairs is difficult and expensive.
