What Your 2006 Honda S2000 Warranty Covers

While your 2006 Honda S2000 comes from a reliable manufacturer, it’s only a matter of time before it needs repairs. The Factory Warranty (otherwise known as a Manufacturer’s Warranty) offered coverage to those who purchased the vehicle new, with some of the coverage extending to subsequent owners. Unfortunately, this warranty has now expired.

This guide explores the coverage that the 2006 Honda S2000 once offered. You can learn about how long the warranty was valid and what types of repairs it covered. Keep in mind that warranties are usually described in terms of time and mileage — for example, “two years/24,000 miles.” This means that you get two years of coverage unless you exceed 24,000 miles, in which case the coverage ends early.

If you have specific questions regarding the factory warranty, see the FAQ section at the bottom.

2006 Honda S2000 Factory Warranty

Here’s key information regarding the 2006 Honda S2000’s factory warranty:

2006 Honda S2000 Basic Warranty

The 2006 Honda S2000 included a New Vehicle Limited Warranty that was valid for three years or 36,000 miles. The manufacturer repaired or replaced any part that it classified as defective under normal use. It has expired. Exclusions to the Basic Warranty included cleaning, polishing, normal deterioration, and chipped window glass unless it resulted from material or workmanship defects.

2006 Honda S2000 Powertrain Warranty

A new 2006 Honda S2000 had a Powertrain Warranty that was valid for five years or 60,0000 miles. The manufacturer would cover repairs and replacements to components like the engine, transmission, and transaction.

Owners could also get coverage for the front-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive systems. For repairs and replacements to be eligible, they must have happened because of a defect resulting from the material or workmanship.

Corrosion Perforation Warranty

The 2006 Honda S2000 included a Corrosion Perforation Warranty for up to five years with no mileage limit. It has since expired. This warranty applied to body panels that completely rusted through from the inside out

If the rust resulted from material or workmanship defects, the owner could obtain coverage through the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Only the vehicle’s original owner could have made a claim under the Corrosion Perforation Warranty.

Air Conditioning Warranty

The 2006 Honda S2000 didn’t come with a specific Air Conditioning Warranty, but the vehicle’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty covered faulty parts or workmanship in the system for three years or 36,000 miles. Honda didn’t cover air conditioner refrigerant charges after the first year.

Paint Warranty

A paint warranty didn’t apply to the 2006 Honda S2000. The New Vehicle Limited Warranty notes that dealerships usually corrected paint chips and other cosmetic flaws that occurred during manufacturing and shipping before delivery.

Battery Warranty

The Original Equipment Battery Limited Warranty guaranteed coverage for the 2006 Honda S2000’s battery for three years with no mileage limit. The manufacturer would cover all diagnosis, labor, installation, and material costs. This warranty is no longer valid.

Tire Warranty

The tires on a 2006 Honda S2000, including the compact spare tire, have separate warranties through their original manufacturers rather than through Honda. A Honda dealer representative can help drivers contact the appropriate tire manufacturer representatives to determine if their warranties have expired. Examples of popular manufacturers that made tires for the 2006 Honda S2000 include Michelin and Dunlop.

Emissions Warranty

The federal 2006 Honda S2000 Emissions Warranty was valid for a minimum of three years or 36,000 miles. If you live in California, the Emissions Control Systems Defects and Performance Warranties were good for three years or 50,000 miles. In addition, the Clean Air Act required automakers to cover the catalytic converter, engine computer, and onboard diagnostics for eight years or 80,000 miles. All of this coverage has expired, however.

FAQs

Here some FAQs about the 2006 Honda S2000 warranty:

The 2006 Honda S2000 has a Seat Belt Limited Warranty that’s valid for the useful life of the vehicle. The manufacturer will determine whether a repair or replacement is necessary. This warranty doesn’t cover malfunctions that result from collisions, or repair requests for cosmetic or comfort reasons.

The Replacement Parts Limited Warranty covers genuine Honda parts that a dealership installs in your 2006 Honda S2000. It’s good for one year or 12,000 miles. If you purchased a part from a Honda dealer and had another party install it, Honda will still cover the part for one year.

The Original Equipment Battery Limited Warranty covered the battery that came with the purchase of the 2006 Honda S2000 for the first three years, while the Replacement Battery Limited Warranty covers replacement batteries.

The latter warranty covers replacement batteries for 100 months. For the first three years, the manufacturer covers all costs including labor and installation. After three years, the manufacturer will cover part of the battery’s cost but leave the owner responsible for labor and installation costs.

Because it’s an older vehicle, the 2006 Honda S2000 offers few of its original manufacturer coverages today. Exceptions include seat belt coverage and protection for parts you purchased within the last year.

If your factory warranty has expired and you’re looking to reduce out-of-pocket expenses, be sure to check out the FIXD+CARCHEX Vehicle Protection Plan.
