2008 Honda Element Basic Warranty

The New Vehicle Limited Warranty was Honda’s basic warranty package. The warranty covered the vehicle for three years or 36,000 miles. The warranty covered defective vehicle components. It excluded the accessories, emissions systems, batteries, or tires, which were covered under other warranties.

2008 Honda Element Powertrain Warranty

The Powertrain Limited Warranty covered the 2008 Honda Element for five years or 60,000 miles, whichever occurred first. Powertrain parts might have had additional coverage under other warranties as well.

This warranty covered the engine components including

  • Cylinder block
  • Valve covers
  • Gaskets
  • Fuel pump
  • Water pump
  • Timing belts

The warranty also covered the transmission, including the powertrain control module and gaskets, and the front- and rear-wheel-drive systems.

Corrosion Perforation Warranty

Honda’s Rust Perforation Warranty covered the 2008 Honda Element for five years with no mileage cap. This warranty was only available to the vehicle’s first owner, and it covered body panels rusted all the way through. It did not cover surface rust or rust caused by vehicle abuse or misuse.

Air Conditioning Warranty

The New Vehicle Limited Warranty covered the air conditioner for three years or 36,000 miles. This warranty also covered air conditioner refrigerant for the first year of ownership.

Paint Warranty

The New Vehicle Limited Warranty did not cover cosmetic damage including paint. Honda did not cover cosmetic defects under any warranty. Additionally, Honda did not offer paint matching for fixing issues such as rust damage.

Battery Warranty

The Original Equipment Battery Limited Warranty covered the 2008 Honda Element for three years and had no mileage limit. Honda would replace the battery at no cost, including installation and labor.

Tire Warranty

Honda did not cover the tires of the 2008 Honda Element. The original tires received coverage from their manufacturer. Contact the Honda dealership to learn more about tire warranties from the manufacturer.

Emissions Warranty

The Federal Emissions Warranties covered emissions systems defects and poor workmanship for three years or 36,000 miles. The Emissions Performance Warranty also provided repairs to help the vehicle pass EPA-approved emissions tests at no cost.

The California Emissions Warranties applied to owners in some states, including California, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Honda offered this coverage for three years or 50,000 miles. Select components had coverage for seven years or 70,000 miles.

The Clean Air Act requires vehicle manufacturers to take some steps to protect the emissions systems of the vehicles they produce. According to the Clean Air Act, Honda must cover several emissions components for eight years or 80,000 miles. The parts included the engine computer and catalytic converter. This coverage has since expired.

2008 Honda Element Warranty Extensions Available Upon Car Purchase

Those who purchased the 2008 Honda Element new received an offer for an extended warranty early in vehicle ownership. The vehicle service contract offered through Honda Care would extend coverage up to eight years or 120,000 miles.
