All About Your 2009 Honda S2000 Warranty

The 2009 Honda S2000 warranty covered a wide range of repairs for the vehicle, but most of it has long since expired. Still, it’s important to have a grasp of what the warranty used to cover to get a better idea about the types of coverages you could get for your S2000 now with a new extended warranty. Like most warranties, the original warranty for the S2000 had different sections and terms for varying aspects, and the details can get a bit complicated.

When you’re looking at car warranties, you’ll likely see a few terms like factory warranty, basic warranty, bumper-to-bumper warranty, and more all used interchangeably. They actually mean different things, so you’ll need to understand that first before grasping the coverage limits. Additionally, coverage terms are expressed in both years and mileage most of the time, with the expiration happening according to whichever threshold you meet first.

To help you better understand the factory warranty on the S2000, we’ve compiled this handy table with all the essentials.

Factory Warranty

2009 Honda S2000 Basic Warranty

The New Vehicle Limited Warranty for the 2009 S2000 lasted for three years or 36,000 miles, and it covered repairs for just about everything that could go wrong in the vehicle due to manufacturing defects. Note that other aspects of the vehicle may have been warranted with additional coverage, while certain parts were warranted entirely separately. This warranty is now expired.

2009 Honda S2000 Powertrain Warranty

With the S2000’s Powertrain Limited Warranty, you had five years or 60,000 miles of coverage for the engine, transmission, and drivetrain. In order to claim this warranty, you would have had to properly maintain the vehicle unless the powertrain problem was not caused by negligence. This warranty is now expired.

Corrosion Perforation Warranty

When it comes to the Rust Perforation Limited Warranty, you had five years of coverage without any limit on mileage. This warranty covered any panel on the vehicle that rusted from the inside out. If you made a claim on this warranty, the limit didn’t get reset for the new panel replacement. You were only ever covered for the remainder of the time left on the initial warranty for any replacement panels.

Air Conditioning Warranty

While there was no specific air conditioning warranty on the 2009 S2000, it was generally covered under the car’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty. The air conditioning refrigerant, on the other hand, was only covered for a year. After that, it was only covered in the event that it needed to be replaced as part of another repair that was still under warranty.

Paint Warranty

There was no paint warranty for the S2000. Only paint flaws that occurred during the manufacturing of the vehicle or during shipping were covered as part of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, with paint matching and repairs from accidents specifically omitted from coverage. This coverage lasted for three years or 36,000 miles.

Battery Warranty

The battery warranty for the 2009 S2000 began on the same date as the New Vehicle Limited Warranty and was covered for three years or unlimited miles under the Original Equipment Battery Limited Warranty. This warranty has expired.

Tire Warranty

Tires on your 2009 S2000 are warranted separately from the rest of the vehicle. In fact, Honda doesn’t issue warranties for them at all, with your tires instead being covered by the tire manufacturers themselves. You can get in touch with them for the details. A Honda dealer can point the way.

Emissions Warranty

The emissions warranty for the 2009 S2000 depended on where you live. In most states, it lasted for three years or 36,000 miles, but states operating under California rules offered coverage for up to 50,000 miles over the same time period. Some parts like the catalytic converter, onboard diagnostics, and engine computer were additionally covered for eight years or 80,000 miles thanks to the Clean Air Act.

2009 Honda S2000 Warranty Extensions Available Upon Car Purchase

When the 2009 S2000 was first purchased, there was likely an extended warranty option available. While it can vary by dealership, the most common extended warranty offer expanded the New Vehicle Limited Warranty to eight years or 120,000 miles depending on which came first. Even that, however, would be expired by now.

FAQs

Here are some of the most commonly asked questions about the 2009 Honda S2000 warranty:

For the most part, the 2009 S2000 New Vehicle Limited Warranty has long since expired, but your seat belt coverage may still be valid. Proper functioning of the seat belt is covered under warranty for 15 years or 150,000 miles. Assuming you haven’t met the mileage limit yet, this warranty won’t expire until 2024.

While the value of an extended warranty is ultimately up to you, there are important facts to consider, such as how much you’re willing to pay out of pocket. The 2009 S2000 was built to last, but every older vehicle is more likely to have problems. When you get an extended warranty, you don’t have to worry about fronting the cost of repairing those problems, as they’re covered by the warranty.

Often, convertible tops are the exception when it comes to warranties. Before you agree to any new kind of extended warranty with your convertible S2000, it’s important to check whether or not the convertible top specifically is covered. Of course, commit to best practices regarding convertible top care to prevent serious problems.

The cost of warranties tends to match the cost of potential repairs. Because repairs are often more costly in luxury cars or sports cars, warranties for those kinds of vehicles tend to cost more as well. Still, they cost a lot less than having to pay for those repairs out of pocket in most cases.

The 2009 S2000’s original factory warranty covered quite a bit, and you can enjoy continuing peace of mind by opting for a new extended warranty that will help keep this car going strong. You just have to find the warranty that fits your needs the best.

If your factory warranty has expired and you’re looking to reduce out-of-pocket expenses, be sure to check out the FIXD+CARCHEX Vehicle Protection Plan.
