What Your 2010 Honda Element Warranty Covers

The 2010 Honda Element warranty covered many of the vehicle’s components. This factory warranty (also called a manufacturer’s warranty) and several extended warranties have since expired. Customers who need or want more coverage will need to find it through a third party.

What did Honda’s warranty cover? We’ll explain what the warranty covered and where you can find a current warranty through a third party. This information is convenient if you’re looking for a new extended warranty to cover your 2010 Element for even longer.

Factory Warranty

One of the most important aspects to understand about a car warranty is its term limit. This is typically expressed in years and mileage, with the expiration happening when you reach either threshold first.

Additionally, it’s important to recognize that factory warranty, basic warranty, and other warranty names all mean different things. Learning the difference is key to understanding coverage limitations.

To help you understand the most important aspects of the 2010 Honda Element warranty, we’ve compiled this chart with all the essentials.

2010 Honda Element Factory Warranty Coverage:

Basic Warranty:3 years or 36,000 miles
Powertrain Warranty:5 years or 60,000 miles
Corrosion Perforation Warranty:5 years or unlimited miles
Air Conditioning Warranty:3 years or 36,000 miles
Paint Warranty:3 years or 36,000 miles
Battery Warranty:3 years and unlimited miles
Emissions Warranty:

Total Unique Recalls:5

2010 Honda Element Basic Warranty

The 2010 Element’s Basic Warranty covered most aspects of the vehicle and lasted three years or 36,000 miles. Basic Warranty refers to the main warranty covering only the most essential parts, while the Factory Warranty includes all the warranties Honda issued in addition to the Basic Warranty.

2010 Honda Element Powertrain Warranty

With the Powertrain Warranty, you had five years or 60,000 miles of coverage on the engine, drivetrain, and transmission. This warranty covered most parts of the vehicle’s mechanics. Making a claim on this warranty required you to keep up with recommended vehicle maintenance

Corrosion Perforation Warranty

The Corrosion Perforation Warranty lasted five years without mileage limitations because the amount of rust on the vehicle’s body panels isn’t dependent on the distance driven. If you made a claim on this warranty in the past, the five-year limit does not get reset for new body panels.

Air Conditioning Warranty

While the 2010 Element didn’t have a specific Air Conditioning Warranty, the Basic Warranty covered air conditioning for three years or 36,000 miles. Recharging the air conditioning refrigerant, however, was only covered for one year.

Paint Warranty

The Paint Warranty for the 2010 Element is part of the Basic Warranty. It only covered paint defects and did not cover paint problems from damage or paint matching.

Battery Warranty

The Original Equipment Battery Limited Warranty covered your 2010 Element’s battery for three years with no mileage limit. The warranty covered the cost of labor and installation in addition to the new battery.

Tire Warranty

The tires are covered separately from the rest of your Element, so you’ll have to contact the tire manufacturer for specific information about their warranties. Your local Honda dealer can help point you in the right direction.

Emissions Warranty

The emissions warranty for the 2010 Honda Element was good for 3 years or 36,000 miles in most states.  The Clean Air Act covered the catalytic converter, engine computer, and onboard diagnostics for eight years or 80,000 miles.

2010 Honda Element Warranty Extensions Available Upon Car Purchase

When the Element was new, buyers had the opportunity to purchase an extended warranty that lasted eight years or 120,000 miles. Any extended coverage through Honda is now expired.

FAQs

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about the 2010 Honda Element warranty:

The airbag recall Honda issued for several vehicles, including the 2010 Honda Element, is good until 2028, so there’s still time to get it fixed if you haven’t already. Visit any Honda dealer for a free repair.

Your Element might be outfitted with one of several tire brands. The most common ones include Michelin, Yokohama, Goodyear, Continental, or Bridgestone.

As long as the warranty was within the time limit of the original basic warranty, it can be transferred to a new owner. The warranty coverage doesn’t reset, however. The new owner only gets the remaining coverage on the original warranty.

Conclusion: Can I Get a Lifetime Warranty?

Lifetime warranties are sometimes available, but they’re not common. You often have to purchase them at the same time you purchase the vehicle, and they’re not available at all Honda dealerships.

Getting a new extended warranty on an older vehicle is a great way to drive with peace of mind. Older vehicles are more likely to have mechanical problems, so you can benefit from having them covered under warranty.

If your factory warranty has expired and you want to reduce out-of-pocket expenses, check out the FIXD+CARCHEX Vehicle Protection Plan. And remember, the best way to ensure warranty coverage (and prevent costly repairs in the first place) is to follow your manufacturer-recommended maintenance schedule.
