Learn More About Your 2012 Honda CR-Z Warranty Coverage
All new Honda vehicles come with a Factory Warranty. You might hear this warranty referred to as a Manufacturer’s or Basic Warranty, but all these terms are for the warranty coverage you have when your vehicle is new. Because your 2012 CR-Z is older, you might not remember all everything about the warranty and what it covers. In this guide, you’ll find helpful details that explain the 2012 Honda CR-Z warranty, including parts that were covered, if any coverage remains, and important recall information.
2012 Honda CR-Z Factory Warranty Coverage: | |
---|---|
Basic Warranty: | 3 years or 36,000 miles |
Powertrain Warranty: | 5 years or 60,000 miles |
IMA Warranty: | 3 years or 36,000 miles 3 years or 50,000 miles in some states |
Corrosion Perforation Warranty: | 5 years with no mileage limit |
Air Conditioning Warranty: | 3 years or 36,000 miles |
Battery Warranty: | 3 years or 36,000 miles |
Emission Warranty: | 3 years or 36,000 miles 3 years or 50,000 miles in some states 8 years or 80,000 miles on some parts |
Total Unique Recalls: | 2 |
You’ll see the warranty limitations listed as both time and miles, but your warranty expires when you reach either the time cap or the mileage cap. For example, if your 2012 CR-Z hit the 60,000-mile mark before the five-year time frame ended, the Powertrain Warranty would expire even though you hadn’t reached the five-year limit. If you still have questions about your warranty, read to the end of the article to find answers to common FAQs.
Factory Warranty
2012 Honda CR-Z Basic Warranty
For three years or 36,000 miles, your 2012 Honda CR-Z had a New Vehicle Limited Warranty that covered components that failed due to a defect in materials or workmanship. This warranty started on the day you took possession of the vehicle, but the coverage is now expired. During the first six months, this warranty covered the cost of replacing batteries for key fobs and remotes and also for wiper blade replacements. The warranty didn’t cover:
- Deterioration from normal wear and tear
- Broken, scratched, or chipped window glass
- Adding fluids that weren’t required for other warranty work
2012 Honda CR-Z Powertrain Warranty
On the same day the New Vehicle Limited Warranty started, your Powertrain Limited Warranty went into effect. This warranty covered your engine, transmission, transaxle, and drive system for five years or 60,000 miles. This warranty is no longer in effect. Some powertrain components might have had coverage under other warranties, but the parts included in this warranty were:
- Timing gears and gaskets
- Timing chain/belt and cover
- Intake and exhaust manifolds
- Oil pan and pump
- Transfer case and all internal parts
- Transmission/powertrain control module
- Final drive housing and all internal parts
- Front hubs and bearings
- Seals and gaskets
This list is not exhaustive, as all major parts of the powertrain had coverage under the Powertrain Limited Warranty.
2012 Honda CR-Z IMA Warranty
The 2012 Honda CR-Z is a hybrid electric vehicle, and it features Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist hybrid drive system. This coverage lasted for three years or 36,000 miles in Federal Emissions states and three years or 50,000 miles in California Emissions states. See the 2012 CR-Z Emissions Warranty section below for more information.
2012 Honda CR-Z Corrosion Perforation Warranty
If any of the panels on your 2012 Honda CR-Z rusted through completely, and you are the original owner of the car, the Rust Perforation Limited Warranty covered them. This coverage was valid for five years starting on the same day as the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. It’s no longer in effect. Any rust that didn’t perforate but caused damage to panels was covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. The warranty wouldn’t repair or replace panels that rusted due to:
- Corrosive gas
- Industrial fallout
- Road hazards
- Road debris
- Immersion in mud
- Immersion in sand
- Immersion in water
- Misuse or abuse
It also wouldn’t repair or replace rusted underbody panels or rust on any part of the vehicle other than the panels.
2012 Honda CR-Z Air Conditioning Warranty
The 2012 Honda CR-Z didn’t have a separate warranty for the air conditioning system, but the New Vehicle Limited Warranty covered this system for three years or 36,000 miles. With your New Vehicle Limited Warranty, you could also have the air conditioner coolant recharged for the first year of ownership for your 2012 Honda CR-Z. However, to ensure coverage of the system’s major components, you would have needed an extended warranty from Honda. Both warranties are expired now.
2012 Honda CR-Z Paint Warranty
Anything related to the appearance of your 2012 Honda CR-Z isn’t covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty or any other Honda warranty. Paint or body damage on your vehicle that occurred in transport should have been brought to your dealer’s attention right away for repair.
2012 Honda CR-Z Battery Warranty
The original 12-volt battery in your 2012 Honda CR-Z was covered for three years or 36,000 miles under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. This coverage paid to replace the battery as well as install it. You no longer have this coverage, as it’s expired.
This battery warranty does not include coverage for the CR-Z’s high-voltage hybrid battery, which is covered under the emissions warranty.
2012 Honda CR-Z Tire Warranty
The tires that came on your 2012 Honda CR-Z were warrantied by their manufacturer. You can find the provided warranty statement for the tires in the glove box. Contact your Honda dealer if you need help getting information about your CR-Z’s Tire Warranty. Honda uses the following reputable tire companies to supply tires for its vehicles:
2012 Honda CR-Z Emissions Warranty
The emissions system in your 2012 CR-Z came with a three-year, 36,000-mile Federal Emissions Warranty that started the same day as the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. In California and select states, this coverage was good for 50,000 miles and, for some parts, lasted seven years or 70,000 miles. Using Clean Air Act standards, Honda also covered some emissions components for eight years or 80,000 miles. All this coverage is now expired. Both the Federal and California Emissions Warranties provided coverage for these major components:
- Crankcase control system
- Evaporative and refueling emissions control systems
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system
- Exhaust system
- Ignition system
- Fuel injection system
- OBD system
- Transmission control system
- Intake air system
- Valve control system

2012 Honda CR-Z Warranty Extensions Available Upon Car Purchase
Before your New Vehicle Limited Warranty expired, you had the option to purchase a Honda Care plan. It would have extended the coverage of your Factory Warranty to eight years or 120,000 miles. This warranty encompassed the air conditioning system and also provided roadside assistance. You can check with your Honda dealer to find out if you still have coverage under this warranty extension if you purchased it for your 2012 Honda CR-Z.
2012 Honda CR-Z Extended Warranty Available Now
You no longer have coverage for your 2012 Honda CR-Z under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Fortunately, you can still get an extended warranty from a third-party provider if you want coverage for your car. This can provide peace of mind when you own an aging vehicle.

Are Seat Belts Covered Under the 2012 Honda CR-Z Warranty?
Starting on the same day as the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, your 2012 Honda CR-Z had a Seat Belt Limited Warranty that also went into effect. This seat belt coverage is good for 15 years or 150,000 miles. It will pay to replace seat belts that fail due to a defect in materials or workmanship but not to replace seat belts for their appearance. It also won’t replace seat belts just for comfort reasons. Unless your CR-Z has more than 150,000 miles, this coverage is still valid.

Does the Stereo in the 2012 Honda CR-Z Have a Warranty?
All the accessories that came installed on your 2012 Honda CR-Z had coverage under the Accessory Limited Warranty, including the audio system. This coverage started on the same day as the New Vehicle Limited Warranty and lasted for the same three-year, 36,000-mile time period. Honda would run diagnostics on the stereo to determine if it could fix the issue or if the sound system itself was faulty. This coverage is expired.
With the information in this guide, you should have a better grasp of what your 2012 Honda CR-Z warranty covered. Although most of the coverage Honda provided for your car has expired, you still have options.
