What’s Included in Your 2016 Honda HR-V Warranty?

Honda provides a Factory Warranty, also known as a Manufacturer’s Warranty, for every new vehicle, including the 2016 Honda HR-V. We’ve created this guide to help you determine if your warranty is still valid and whether you have a Factory Warranty, a Dealership Warranty, or a Powertrain Warranty. We’ll also help you figure out if your warranty covers items like tires, paint, and batteries.

Keep in mind that warranty durations are listed as time or distance, whichever comes first. For example, a three-year/36,000-mile warranty expires when the odometer hits 36,000 miles or three years after the car was first delivered.

2016 Honda HR-V Basic Warranty

The 2016 Honda HR-V had a three-year, 36,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty starting on the original date of delivery or leasing. As of 2022, this warranty is expired. It covered most components that were defective under normal use. Exclusions included damage from everyday wear and tear, cleaning services, and most window glass damage.

2016 Honda HR-V Powertrain Warranty

The 2016 Honda HR-V had a five-year, 60,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty that covered the engine, transmission, transaxle, and front-wheel-drive system. As of 2022, this warranty is expired.

Corrosion Perforation Warranty

The 2016 Honda HR-V had a five-year, unlimited mileage Rust Perforation Limited Warranty that covered any body panel that rusted from the inside out. As of 2022, this warranty is expired.

Air Conditioning Warranty

The 2016 Honda HR-V’s air conditioning system was covered for three years or 36,000 miles under the Federal Emissions Warranty or three years or 50,000 miles under the California Emissions Warranty, depending on where the vehicle was sold and driven. Additionally, the New Vehicle Limited Warranty covered air conditioner refrigerant for two years or 24,000 miles. This coverage has now expired.

Paint Warranty

The 2016 Honda HR-V’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty did not cover paint. The Rust Perforation Limited Warranty did not cover rust caused by paint damage from road debris, nor did it cover paint matching.

Battery Warranty

The 2016 Honda HR-V’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty covered the original 12-volt battery for the first three years or 36,000 miles of owning the car. This coverage has since expired.

Tire Warranty

The 2016 Honda HR-V’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty did not cover tires. The tires that came as original equipment on your HR-V are warranted by their manufacturer in a separate warranty statement provided by the dealership.

Emissions Warranty

The 2016 Honda HR-V had a three-year, 36,000-mile Federal Emissions Warranty that covered emissions system components that were defective under normal use. Drivers in California or certain other states were instead under the California Emissions Warranty, which extended the coverage to 50,000 miles. As of 2022, both warranties have expired.

The Clean Air Act requires Honda to cover the catalytic converter, engine computer, and onboard diagnostics for eight years or 80,000 miles. If your HR-V has less than 80,000 miles, it should still qualify for this coverage. Contact your local Honda dealership for more details.
