Crankshaft Position Sensor “A” Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1)
What Does P0335 Mean?
Crankshaft position is used to inform the Engine Control Module (ECM) of when it is time to spark and deliver fuel. It works hand in hand with the reluctor ring that creates a square wave voltage signal that the ECM interprets as the crankshaft position. Trouble code P0335 is set whenever the ECM does not sense crankshaft pulses or senses a problem with the pulses in the output with Sensor “A” Bank 1.

Code P0335 Severity – High
This trouble code can cause some major internal mechanical drivability issues. To prevent any further damage to the engine, diagnosis should be done as soon as possible to fix the issue.
Code P0335 Common Diagnosis Mistakes
The crankshaft position sensor is replaced whenever there is a defective camshaft position sensor or a poor connection.
- Tools Needed to Diagnose:
Difficulty of Diagnosis and Repair – (4-7)*
- Use live scan tool to check that there is a RPM reading when the engine is running.
- Conduct a visual inspection of the crank sensor and connectors and search for signs of fraying/damage to the wiring.
- If no visible damage is found, you can check the CKP 5 Volt square wave pattern. You will have to reference your vehicle’s repair manual to determine which resistance reading is sufficient. This reading will come from the vehicle’s PCM. If you are not familiar with vehicles, it is best to leave this step to a professional.
- If the reading is within the specifications of the vehicle, no need to replace the crankshaft position sensor. However if the reading is NOT within the specifications of the vehicles, the crankshaft position sensor should be replaced. Replace any frays/damaged wiring and if the reading is within the specifications now, there may be a short in the wiring.
*If these steps do not locate your issue, it may be within your PCM and you will need to take it to a mechanic for further diagnosis.
