Code P0335 Definition
Crankshaft Position Sensor “A” Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1)
What Does P0335 Mean?
Crankshaft position is used to inform the Engine Control Module (ECM) of when it is time to spark and deliver fuel. It works hand in hand with the reluctor ring that creates a square wave voltage signal that the ECM interprets as the crankshaft position. Trouble code P0335 is set whenever the ECM does not sense crankshaft pulses or senses a problem with the pulses in the output with Sensor “A” Bank 1.
P0335 Symptom
- Check Engine Light
- Vehicle may stall/hesitate
- Hard starting vehicle
- Rough running vehicle
- Engine dies
P0335 Causes
- Damaged crankshaft position sensor
- Defective crankshaft position sensor
- Broken timing belt or chain
- Rough running/misfiring engine
- Failed ECM
Code P0335 Severity – High

This trouble code can cause some major internal mechanical drivability issues. To prevent any further damage to the engine, diagnosis should be done as soon as possible to fix the issue.
Code P0335 Common Diagnosis Mistakes
The crankshaft position sensor is replaced whenever there is a defective camshaft position sensor or a poor connection.
P0335 Diagnosis
- Tools Needed to Diagnose:
- FIXD
Difficulty of Diagnosis and Repair – (4-7)*
- Use live scan tool to check that there is a RPM reading when the engine is running.
- Conduct a visual inspection of the crank sensor and connectors and search for signs of fraying/damage to the wiring.
- If no visible damage is found, you can check the CKP 5 Volt square wave pattern. You will have to reference your vehicle’s repair manual to determine which resistance reading is sufficient. This reading will come from the vehicle’s PCM. If you are not familiar with vehicles, it is best to leave this step to a professional.
- If the reading is within the specifications of the vehicle, no need to replace the crankshaft position sensor. However if the reading is NOT within the specifications of the vehicles, the crankshaft position sensor should be replaced. Replace any frays/damaged wiring and if the reading is within the specifications now, there may be a short in the wiring.
*If these steps do not locate your issue, it may be within your PCM and you will need to take it to a mechanic for further diagnosis.

July 30, 2019I have being battling with a stalling/misfiring engine for months now. And its being drainging my pocket because i have to frequently visit the mechanic. A 2000 Sonata. Ive changed fuel pump cos it seem the problem gets worse when the engine heats up and will have to wait some minutes before engine can start. Ive had my spark plugs and coils checked and its Ok. but problem still remained. A month ago the OBD2 scanner gave an ECT sensor error. I replaced that too. Works well for a while and problem resurfaces. Recently i was having a tough time starting it in the mornings and sometimes in the day even after moving it around some few miles.
Then the Mechanic said there was no power distribution so he suspects the Crankshaft sensor. This was then confirmed by the OBD 2 scanner. i got it too replaced and for some 4 days now its running better. Just hoping thats it with the misfire and difficulty in starting problem
But one other problem exist and cant tell how to solve it yet
My speedometer sometimes works and sometimes too stays at zero

September 12, 2019I had a po335, replaced the crankshaft position sensor, still having some problems. A few minutes after I put my engine back together, turned my car on idled fine and then just shut off. I turned it back on and every time I gave it gas it bogged down. The next day I was able to drive it but it would randomly cut off, soon it slowly lost power and struggle to accelerate or shift. I dont know what to do

September 29, 2019i have a nissan sunny FB15 and its showing P0335 fault. i replaced the crankshaft position sensor but engine fails to start whilst the sensor is coonected. once i disconnect the crank-sensor it will start but will not give enough power when driving. Engine may stall anytime. As of now if i replace the CKS from another car which is moving, it will not start until i disconnect the sensor harness.
A proffessional tried to check the wiring but he said it was fine. Am now thinking faulty ECM.
Can Anyone help +263772716030

March 30, 20202009 Dodge journey 2.4 liter. P0335 has been showing for months, no matter what we replace. Started with crankshaft position sensor, cylinder 1, spark plugs. Thought the problem was fixed and then it started running bad again, took it back and still showed P0335. So far, we have changed reluctor wheel, timing chain, crankshaft position sensor, spark plugs, cylinder, coil, battery….problem still persists. Now it will not start at all, almost like a dead battery…? It’s our only vehicle and we have a little one and jobs, any advice would be welcome.

November 27, 2020p0035 is a turbocharger code. you may have gotten that one wrong. the others are related to either an o2 sensor, or a bad catalytic converter
