If you’re in the market for a new or used Chevrolet vehicle, you may have some questions about a Chevy warranty, and we have the answers. This article explains what a Chevy warranty is, why it’s important, which coverage levels are available, and how to access a preferred tier of protection. Once you’ve learned more about Chevy warranties, you’ll understand why they give so many drivers greater peace of mind on the road.

Chevy is an automaker with a proven track record dating back to the 1911 launch of the Chevrolet Motor Car Company. Today, Chevy continues to meet the needs of even the most discerning drivers by offering a range of high-quality vehicles. Examples include trucks, sedans, and SUVs.

What Is a Chevy Warranty?

When a consumer buys a new vehicle from Chevrolet, it comes with a Chevy warranty. This warranty provides limited bumper-to-bumper protection. Powertrain coverage is also included with new vehicle purchases. If a driver buys a used Chevy, any remaining warranty will be valid. Purchasing extended warranty coverage is also an option.

Some drivers buy extended warranty coverage right at the start, by choosing it in addition to the typical Chevy warranty. If you do, you’ll get a longer duration of coverage, based on miles and time (whichever comes first). Later on in this article, you’ll see a list of warranties’ durations and detailed information about what each extended warranty covers.

Why Chevy Warranties Are Important

Chevy warranties help Chevrolet vehicle owners minimize or eliminate repair costs for the first several years of ownership. Since everyone who buys a new Chevy also gets a warranty bundle that includes a solid level of protection, choosing to purchase a Chevy vehicle is a smart decision. Supplemental warranty protection is also available, which can be a good investment.

Chevy Warranty Durations and Details

Sometimes, Chevy drivers aren’t quite sure how long their Chevrolet warranties last, so knowing the exact duration of these coverage policies can be very helpful. Consumers also want to know other practical details about regular (included with purchase) and extended warranty coverage. With this in mind, we’ve compiled information that drivers can use to learn about the length of each type of Chevy warranty.

The following warranties are all included with a new auto purchase:

  • Bumper-to-Bumper Limited Warranty: This warranty includes coverage that lasts for three years or up to 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. This warranty covers the cost of repairs to fix workmanship or materials defects for the whole vehicle, including labor and parts. Tires are not included in this coverage. Additionally, routine maintenance isn’t covered, and neither are issues related to vibrations or noise.
  • Limited Chevy Powertrain Warranty: This warranty’s coverage lasts for five years or up to 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. This warranty provides coverage for the transmission, transaxle, motor, and transfer case.
  • Emission Control System Limited Warranty: With this policy, emission control system defects coverage is provided for two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. This warranty provides coverage for systems and parts that relate to emission control.
  • Anti-Corrosion Coverage: This coverage lasts for three years or 36,000 miles, with six years of rust-through coverage or up to 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. This coverage is for sheet metal protection
  • Roadside Assistance: This warranty has a duration of five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. This covers towing to Chevy dealerships, jump-starts, and flat tire changes.
  • Electric and Hybrid Coverage: This warranty features coverage for eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. This coverage is for specific hybrid and electric parts, including the battery.

The following warranty is NOT included with a new auto purchase but may be added at or soon after the time of purchase:

  • Chevrolet Extended Limited Warranty: This policy grants you five years or 60,000 miles of coverage, whichever comes first. This warranty provides bumper-to-bumper limited warranty coverage after the initial new car bumper-to-bumper limited warranty runs out.

What Isn’t Covered in a Chevy Warranty?

A lot of consumers are interested in finding out what isn’t covered under Chevy warranties. They may be thinking about buying Chevrolet vehicles or already own Chevy cars, trucks, or SUVs. If you don’t maintain your vehicle properly, any resulting damage will not be covered. Also, if your vehicle is damaged because you modified or tampered with it by adding aftermarket parts or making other changes, that damage won’t be covered. Damage related to weather conditions, such as floods, snow, or rain, isn’t covered.

If your Chevy is damaged from using the wrong fuel, tainted fuel, or unapproved fuel treatment, the warranty won’t cover the damage. Any issues related to wear and tear will also not be covered under a Chevrolet warranty. If you’re in a car accident, such as a collision, any related damage won’t be covered. Finally, regular maintenance won’t be covered.

Chevy Provides a Good Level of Protection to Drivers

Now that you know more about what a Chevy warranty is, why you should buy one, how long these warranties last, and what is (and isn’t) covered, you’ve gained a clearer understanding of the entire Chevrolet warranty system. If you’re thinking about purchasing a Chevy, knowing what each type of warranty offers may help you to make a better decision about which vehicle to buy.

Chevy is a trusted automaker that does offer an impressive array of warranty options. Since extended warranty coverage is also available, drivers may choose the level of coverage that suits their situation. With Chevy warranties, drivers feel more secure on the road because they know that they’ve got the kind of coverage that will save them money in the event of issues with their vehicle’s components and systems.
