What Is the Nissan Warranty and What Does It Cover?

What Is the Nissan Warranty and What Does It Cover?
TABLE OF CONTENTS

You may be covered under a Nissan Limited Warranty if you have recently bought a Nissan. Once your Nissan warranty expires, you can continue protection through extended or add-on warranties. Find out what maintenance and repair tasks are included in the Nissan warranty, how to access your benefits, and what additional warranties are available.

What Is the Nissan Warranty?

The Nissan warranty is a written contract that covers the cost of manufacturer defects or powertrain damages within the first few years of vehicle ownership. If you experience any expensive repair needs within your first few years of owning a new Nissan, you may save hundreds with a warranty.

The Nissan limited warranty is basic bumper-to-bumper and powertrain coverage. The bumper-to-bumper warranty covers problems due to material defects or workmanship issues. The powertrain warranty covers the engine, transmission, and drivetrain repairs.

Additional Coverages Included With Nissan Warranty

The Nissan Limited Warranty also comes with other types of coverage, including:

  • Corrosion coverage: Nissan will cover the cost of replacing parts damaged due to corrosion within the first five years of vehicle ownership.
  • Seatbelt coverage: Nissan will cover seatbelt repair or replacement for up to 10 years.
  • Federal vehicle emissions: Some Nissan cars come with emission warranties, which cover performance and defects for varying degrees of length. This includes the replacement of parts like the catalytic converter and the fuel injection system.
  • California vehicle emissions control: If you live in California, you may also be subject to the California vehicle emissions control warranty. This covers the performance and defects of certain vehicles for up to three years or 50,000 miles.
  • Nissan battery warranty: The Nissan battery warranty is included with new Nissan car purchases. It covers the cost of a new battery at a prorated fee, depending on how long you’ve had the vehicle.
  • Roadside assistance: Nissan may cover roadside assistance costs due to mechanical problems, a flat tire, and fuel delivery.

Once your Nissan Limited Warranty expires, you may choose to extend it for an additional cost. Nissan also offers access to additional warranty programs that cover certain parts categories.

How Long Is the Nissan Warranty?

Most new Nissan vehicle purchases come with a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. The Nissan warranty continues for the full length, regardless of if you buy or sell the vehicle. If you buy a used Nissan that is still within warranty, you should still be eligible for warranty coverage. If your vehicle’s repairs or maintenance falls into an approved warranty task, repairs won’t cost you anything.

What Is a Nissan Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Coverage?

If you buy a Certified Pre-Owned Nissan, you will also receive the Nissan Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty. This covers Certified Pre-Owned Nissans for seven years or 100,000 miles from the original purchase date. This warranty covers things like the engine, transmission, drivetrain, and replacement parts.

What Is Not Included in the Nissan Limited Warranty?

It’s also important to know what services are not included in the Nissan Limited Warranty and what things may void your existing warranty. The following may lead to Nissan voiding your warranty:

  • Failing to follow the protocols in the Owner’s Manual
  • Racing
  • Damages due to an accident
  • Theft or vandalism of the vehicle
  • Damages due to alteration or addition of aftermarket parts
  • Repairs not completed by an authorized Nissan dealership
  • Failing to follow the maintenance schedule in the owner’s manual
  • Normal wear and tear

The Nissan warranty won’t cover normal wear and tear, including brakes or tires. Nissan also won’t cover necessary repairs if you don’t keep up with routine maintenance tasks. The Nissan warranty also isn’t designed for use following an auto accident.

Nissan Extended Warranties

Nissan offers access to a few extended warranties, which can help you extend your coverage after your limited warranty is up. Nissan extended warranties are available in three tier levels, including:

  • Powertrain Preferred: Powertrain Preferred covers over 840 vehicle components that occur from a mechanical breakdown, including suspension, steering, and electrical. These are all in addition to the factory limited powertrain warranty which covers the engine, transmission, front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, and four-wheel drive. Powertrain Preferred also covers 24-hour emergency roadside assistance services.
  • Silver Preferred: Silver Preferred covers all Powertrain Preferred coverages, plus an additional 680+ vehicle components like suspension, steering, and audio, video, and navigation system parts. Silver Preferred also offers trip interruption benefits, as well as towing and car rental reimbursement.
  • Gold Preferred: Gold Preferred covers almost all major components of the vehicle. This includes Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, with the exception of routine maintenance.

Nissan extended warranties come with either a $0 or $100 deductible. The price of a warranty depends on the plan and the length of the warranty you choose.

Additional Nissan Warranty Inclusions

Nissan extended warranties may also offer additional benefits, depending on which plan you choose and from who. Some additional warranties that may be available include:

Lease Wear and Tear Warranty

Nissan’s lease wear and tear warranty covers damages to your leased Nissan. This includes damages like dings, dents, and scratches. This includes things like flat tire repair or replacement, wheel repair or replacement, and wheel mounting or balancing. It may also include trip interruption and 24-hour roadside emergency assistance.

24-Hour Roadside Assistance

Many of Nissan’s extended warranties come with 24-hour roadside assistance. This includes emergency towing services, essential fluid and supply delivery, and flat tire changes. It may also cover the cost of lockout services.
