Hankook Dynapro AT2 Review

Hankook Tires Review
TABLE OF CONTENTS

Hankook Tire is a South Korean company that was founded in 1941. It started exporting tires in 1962 and opened its first sales branch in the United States in 1981. Hankook’s Dynapro AT2, also called the Dynapro AT2 RF11, is a high-quality all-terrain tire with excellent capabilities. According to Hankook, this tire is the new standard for the all-terrain tire segment. It was named after the original Dynapro AT, and it’s a successor to the Dynapro AT-m. Here’s a Hankook Dynapro AT2 review with information about this tire’s style, tread design, available sizes, benefits, drawbacks, replacement warning signs, and warranty.

Style, Tread Design, and Performance

The Hankook Dynapro AT2 has a rugged, aggressive look that makes it ideal for many trucks, Jeeps, and some SUVs. The sidewall has bold, black Hankook lettering with white outlines. Across from this lettering, you can see similar Dynapro lettering with AT2 beside it in all white. The new, multidirectional, symmetrical tread design uses an attractive zigzag pattern to create more biting edges on the treads. It provides better traction when going in any direction in a variety of conditions, including loose gravel and snow. It can also make driving more comfortable by reducing vibrations.

Step Block Edge technology helps reduce sound from the tire grooves. The edges of the grooves are stepped for more insulation from noise. Aero Shoulder Technology works to dissipate road noise as well. The gaps between the angular treads on the tire shoulders let air pass through easily, reducing excess sound. They also help improve traction in deep mud or snow.

A new tread compound helps improve tread life, prevent chips and cuts, and reduce resistance to increase fuel efficiency. The Dynapro AT2 has a more rigid outer shell than most all-terrain tires as well. It uses three separate layers to resist dangerous damage from rocks. It has two high-tensile steel belts, two nylon caps, and rigid bars inside the tire shoulders for more stability and durability.

The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) and the Rubber Association of Canada (RAC) certify this tire for winter use. It has a symbol on the sidewall to show that testing determined this tire can accelerate at least 10% faster in medium snow than a tire without this mark. The symbol looks like a mountain with three peaks and a six-pointed snowflake inside it.

Available Sizes

The Hankook Dynapro AT2 comes in 15-, 16-, 17-, 18-, 20, and 22-inch sizes, and you can choose P-metric or LT-metric tires. P-metric tires are for passenger vehicles that don’t usually travel off-road or tow or haul heavy loads. These include many SUVs and trucks. The sizes for these tires have no letter before them or a P. LT-metric tires are for light trucks, and these sizes have LT lettering.

LT tires can help maximize a vehicle’s towing and hauling capacity. They have additional reinforcements to make them even more durable than the standard Dynapro AT2, but they may be slightly less fuel-efficient and provide a less comfortable ride.

Hankook Dynapro AT2 Review

Like any tire on the market, the Dynapro AT2 tires have a number of strengths and weaknesses. Reviewers were especially impressed by how well these tires cornered and responded to steering, but they were critical of how the tires performed in heavy snow. Other positive and negative attributes listed in these reviews include:

Benefits

The Hankook Dynapro AT2 offers better comfort, increased fuel efficiency, and a quieter ride on the highway than the previous Dynapro AT-m. It also has better traction in wet and dry conditions. The Dynapro AT2 works well on sand, gravel, steep slopes, wet roads with large puddles, and heavy rain or snow. This tire can also provide impressive durability and handling, low braking distances, and high hauling and towing capacities.

Drawbacks

Acceleration on wet or icy surfaces can be difficult, but for an all-terrain tire, the Dynapro AT2 has excellent on-road performance. It can handle a variety of tough off-road trails, providing a great balance between many types of terrain. However, people who rarely go off-road can get a smoother, more comfortable ride on the highway with a tire that has fewer off-road features. If you spend more time off-road and don’t commute or drive long distances often, you may want to consider a tire designed mostly for off-road use.

Hankook Dynapro AT2 Warranty

Hankook’s Patron Pledge Plan includes a limited warranty, a road hazard warranty, a mileage warranty, and a 30-day free trial. It lasts for six years from the purchase date, and the company uses the date of manufacture when drivers don’t have proof of the purchase date. If a tire fails because of a manufacturing defect within the first 25% of treadwear or within 12 months of purchase, replacement is free. Mounting and balancing are included as well.

If the tire fails from a defect after this time with less than 60,000 miles of use, you can get a partial payment for the cost of tire replacement, based on the amount of treadwear remaining on the tire. However, proof of the miles on your vehicle when you bought the tire is required.

The Hankook Dynapro AT2 is a great choice if you enjoy driving off-road and also need to spend time on the highway. These tires can make driving fun in a wide variety of conditions, and they can help you make your vehicle more versatile.
