Factory Warranty

2003 Honda Accord Basic Warranty

The 2003 Honda Accord came with Honda’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty. This warranty lasted for three years or 36,000 miles and covered any part found defective in material or workmanship as long as the car is operated under normal use. This warranty has now expired.

The New Vehicle Limited Warranty covers the cost of parts and repairs with no charge to the owner. It does not cover emissions or the battery because these have their own separate warranties.

2003 Honda Accord Powertrain Warranty

The 2003 Honda Accord did not come with a separate powertrain warranty. Instead, the three-year or 36,000 mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty provided powertrain coverage. It is no longer in effect. This warranty covered the engine, transmission, and all mechanical parts responsible for moving your Accord down the road. It did not cover damage from accidents, general maintenance, or normal wear and tear.

Corrosion Perforation Warranty

Honda offered a Rust Perforation Limited Warranty, good for five years and unlimited miles. Only the original owner could make a claim on this warranty. This warranty has now expired.

It only covered body panels that have rusted all the way through. It did not cover surface rust, damage from striking objects or immersion, body panels that have been replaced, or paint matching.

Air Conditioning Warranty

Car air conditioning system. Air condition switched on maximum cooling mode.

There was no separate air conditioning warranty, but the Honda Accord’s air conditioning was covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. It covered the air conditioner refrigerant for the first year unless the replacement was required as part of a warranty repair. This has now expired.

Paint Warranty

TARAKAN - INDONESIA, 7 MAY 2018 ; detail on the matic red honda motorbike

There was no separate paint warranty, and the Basic Warranty only covered defective factory paint jobs. It did not cover scratches or paint damage due to a collision. If the factory paint job began chipping or peeling, the warranty may have covered a partial or complete repaint job. This has now expired.

Battery Warranty

A car mechanic replaces a battery.

The original battery in a 2003 Honda Accord was covered under the original New Vehicle Limited Warranty for three years and unlimited miles. The first two years were completely covered, and the third year covered 50% of the cost of a replacement battery from a Honda dealer. This has now expired. It protected you against faulty craftsmanship that results in damage to the battery or other components.

Emissions Warranty

The 2003 Honda Accord Federal Emissions Warranty was a three-year, 36,000-mile warranty, starting on the date the vehicle was delivered to the first purchaser. In addition, the Clean Air Act requires manufacturers to cover the catalytic converter, engine computer, and onboard diagnostic system for eight years or 80,000 miles. This coverage has now expired.

California and other specified states have a slightly different emissions warranty, which lasted for three years or 50,000 miles. This, too, has expired.

FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions about the 2003 Honda Accord warranty:

All factory warranties have long since expired on the 2003 Accord. The only coverage it might still have would be an extended warranty. You would need to contact your extended warranty provider with your car’s VIN and current mileage to determine if it is still covered or not.

At this time, the factory warranty covers nothing, as the car is too old. While the Honda factory warranty was comprehensive, it didn’t cover everything. It excluded regular wear and tear on parts, regular maintenance, damage caused by a collision, and damage caused by theft or vandalism.

The original Honda Accord’s factory warranty covered genuine Honda accessories for three years or 36,000 miles that were installed at the time of the original purchase. The warranty also covered accessories purchased through Honda but not installed.

Since 2015, Honda has included free roadside assistance with all vehicles for the first three years or 36,000 miles. However, Honda did not offer roadside assistance in 2003, so owners would have had to find alternate roadside assistance.

Some brake components, such as pads and rotors, are considered wear items that need to be replaced as part of routine maintenance. These were not covered under the factory warranty. However, other parts like calipers, brake lines, and the master cylinder that are not wear items would have been covered under the basic warranty.

If your factory warranty has expired and you’re looking to reduce out-of-pocket expenses, be sure to check out the CARCHEX+FIXD Vehicle Protection Plan. And remember, the best way to ensure warranty coverage (and prevent costly repairs in the first place) is to follow your manufacturer-recommended maintenance schedule.
