All About Your 2005 Honda Pilot Warranty

Honda offers a Factory Warranty, otherwise known as a Manufacturer’s Warranty, for all new vehicles, including the 2005 Honda Pilot. We’ve created this guide to help you determine if you still have warranty coverage for your Pilot. We’ll also help you figure out whether your warranty covers items such as batteries, tires, and air conditioning.

Keep in mind that the warranty durations included in this guide are listed as time periods or mileage, whichever comes first. For example, a five-year, 60,000-mile warranty expires in five years or when you hit 60,000 miles in less than five years.

2005 Honda Pilot Factory Warranty Coverage:
Basic Warranty:3 years or 36,000 miles
Powertrain Warranty:3 years or 36,000 miles
Corrosion Perforation Warranty:5 years and unlimited miles
Air Conditioning Warranty:1 year and unlimited miles
Battery Warranty:3 years and unlimited miles (5 years and unlimited miles for replacement batteries)
Emissions Warranty:3 years or 36,000 miles (3 years or 50,000 miles in California)
Total Unique Recalls:15

Please read on for more detailed information about each warranty. If you have additional questions, check out our FAQ section at the bottom.

Factory Warranty

2005 Honda Pilot Basic Warranty

The 2005 Honda Pilot came with a three-year, 36,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty starting on the day the vehicle was delivered to the original purchaser or lessee. This warranty covered repairs and replacements of most components that were defective under normal use and, as of 2022, has expired.

This warranty did not cover emissions control systems, accessories, batteries, or tires. Those components came with separate warranties. Exclusions also applied to damage from everyday wear and tear, cleaning services, and most window glass damage.

2005 Honda Pilot Powertrain Warranty

The 2005 Honda Pilot’s powertrain was covered for three years or 36,000 miles under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. As of 2022, the warranty has expired.

Corrosion Perforation Warranty

The 2005 Honda Pilot came with a five-year, unlimited mileage Rust Perforation Warranty that covered any body panels rusted from the inside out. As of 2022, this warranty has expired.

Air Conditioning Warranty

The 2005 Honda Pilot’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty covered air conditioner refrigerant for one year with unlimited mileage. As of 2022, this warranty has expired.

Paint Warranty

The 2005 Honda Pilot’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty did not cover paint. The Rust Perforation Warranty did not cover rust caused by paint damage from road debris, and it excluded paint matching.

Battery Warranty

Auto mechanic checking car battery voltage

The 2005 Honda Pilot came with a three-year, unlimited mileage Original Equipment Battery Limited Warranty that covered the replacement of the original battery if it was defective under normal use. As of 2022, this warranty has expired. The 2005 Honda Pilot’s five-year, unlimited mileage Replacement Battery Limited Warranty has also expired.

Tire Warranty

Used Car Maintenance. Auto Service Worker Preparing Vehicle For Scheduled Service.

The 2005 Honda Pilot’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty did not cover the vehicle’s tires. The tires that came with your Pilot as original equipment are warrantied by their manufacturer in a separate warranty statement provided by the dealership.

Emissions Warranty

The 2005 Honda Pilot came with a three-year, 36,000-mile Federal Emissions Warranty that covered emissions system components that were defective under normal use. If you lived in California or other select states, your Pilot may have been under the California Emissions Warranty instead, which was in effect for three years or 50,000 miles. As of 2022, both warranties have expired.

Under the Clean Air Act, Honda was required to cover the catalytic converter, engine computer, and onboard diagnostics for eight years or 80,000 miles. However, this coverage has also expired.

2005 Honda Pilot Warranty Extensions Available Upon Car Purchase

A Honda Care plan was available for the 2005 Honda Pilot if purchased from a Honda dealer before the New Vehicle Limited Warranty expired. This extension covered components such as the engine, transmission, and electrical systems for up to eight years or 120,000 miles. While Honda Care plans are transferable to subsequent owners, as of 2022, the transfer period for this extension has expired.
