2006 Honda Accord Warranty: A Comprehensive Guide

If you own a 2006 Honda Accord, then you know that it’s a reliable vehicle. But even the best cars need maintenance and repairs from time to time. That’s where a warranty comes in.

A warranty is a type of insurance that protects you from having to pay for unexpected repairs. When you purchase a new car, it usually comes with a factory warranty that covers certain types of repairs for a certain period of time. Here is a quick look at the warranties that came with a 2006 Honda Accord.

2006 Honda Accord Factory Warranty Coverage
Basic warranty3 years or 36,000 miles
Powertrain warranty5 years or 60,000 miles
Corrosion perforation warranty5 years and unlimited miles
Air conditioning warranty1 year and unlimited miles (refrigerant only)
Battery warranty3 years and unlimited miles
Emissions warranty3 years or 36,000 miles (50,000 in California)
8 years or 80,000 miles on some parts
Total Unique Recalls12

But what exactly does that all mean? And what else does Honda offer in terms of warranty coverage? In this comprehensive guide, we’ll answer all of your questions about the 2006 Honda Accord warranty. We’ll tell you what’s covered, what’s not covered, and what your options are now that your factory warranty has expired. If you have specific questions about the 2006 Honda Accord warranty, please consult the FAQs at the bottom of this page.

Factory Warranty

2006 Honda Accord Basic Warranty

The basic warranty, also called the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, for the 2006 Honda Accord was three years or 36,000 miles, whichever came first. This meant that if you had any problems with your car within that time, Honda would cover the repairs. This has now expired.

There were a few exceptions to this rule, however. Any damage caused by accidents, abuse, or neglect was not covered by the standard warranty. Additionally, any repairs that are considered “routine maintenance” were also not covered. This includes things like oil changes, tire rotations, and brake pads.

2006 Honda Accord Powertrain Warranty

The 2006 Honda Accord Powertrain Warranty extended coverage from previous model years to five years or 60,000 miles. This additional coverage includes the engine, transmission, differential, and axles.

Corrosion Perforation Warranty

The original owner of the vehicle was the only person who could make a claim under this warranty. Within the coverage terms of five years and unlimited miles, Honda would repair or replace any original body panel that rusted completely from the inside out, including panels previously repaired or replaced under this warranty. This has now expired.

Air Conditioning Warranty

There was no separate warranty for the air conditioning, but the basic warranty covered any necessary repairs for three years or 36,000 miles. It also covered refrigerant for just one year with no mileage limit. This has now expired.

Paint Warranty

While there was no separate paint warranty, the basic warranty of three years or 36,000 miles, which has now expired, covered defects in materials and workmanship only. These were typically addressed by the dealer at the time the vehicle was purchased new.

Battery Warranty

The Original Equipment Battery Limited Warranty covered your original battery for three years and unlimited miles from the purchase of the vehicle. This has now expired.

Replacement batteries purchased from a Honda dealer were covered by a 100-month (eight-year, four-month) warranty. You may still be covered by this if you have bought a replacement Honda battery within this time. The Replacement Battery Limited Warranty covers the full cost of replacement for the first three years, then gives you a pro-rated credit toward the purchase of a new battery for the remainder of the warranty. Read more about the Replacement Battery Limited Warranty on Page 37 of the 2006 Honda Accord Warranty Handbook.

Emissions Warranty

The Federal Emissions Warranty covers the entire emissions system for three years or 36,000 miles. In addition, the Clean Air Act requires coverage of the catalytic converter, engine computer, and onboard diagnostics for eight years or 80,000 miles. These have now expired.

This warranty covered repairs or replacement of any Honda engine control module, emission control module, or emission control system that fails during the warranty period. To find out the specific warranty coverage for each part, refer to the emissions parts list. If you have a hybrid model of the 2006 Honda Accord, you will want to refer to the hybrid emissions parts list, which includes the IMA warranty.

In addition to the Federal Emissions Warranty, you may qualify for coverage under the California Emissions Warranty. If you registered your car and normally drive in California, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, or Vermont, you were entitled to three years or 50,000 miles of coverage.

FAQs

We’ve compiled answers to some commonly asked warranty questions:

Honda offers a lifetime warranty on all seat belt components of your 2006 Honda Accord to encourage their use, believing that seat belts are the best way to enhance your safety while driving.

This warranty covers any seat belt component that fails to function properly during normal use, including all labor and parts charges, except for seat belt assemblies being replaced for cosmetic or comfort reasons or any damage caused by abuse, alteration, accidental damage, misuse, or malfunction.

Expanded details about coverage for seat belts are on Page 32 of the 2006 Honda Accord Warranty Handbook.

Replacement exhaust parts (muffler, A-pipe, and B-pipe) are guaranteed against defects in materials and craftsmanship for as long as the customer owns the vehicle on which they are installed. If a guaranteed exhaust component fails due to a defect, Honda will replace it. You must have evidence of purchase for the failed exhaust component. If the exhaust component was originally installed by a Honda dealer, the cost of labor for removal and replacement is also included in this warranty.
