What’s Included in Your 2012 Honda Pilot Warranty?
The 2012 Honda Pilot was originally sold with a Factory Warranty, otherwise known as a Manufacturer’s Warranty. If you own one, you may have questions about what was included under the warranty. Please note that warranty coverage often appears in year/mileage combinations like “one year or 12,000 miles.” This means that the warranty is in effect for up to a year, but also can expire if you hit 12,000 miles, even if a year hasn’t passed yet. Factory Warranty
2012 Honda Pilot Basic Warranty
The 2012 Honda Pilot Basic Warranty or New Vehicle Limited Warranty covered bumper-to-bumper repairs for up to three years or 36,000 miles. The New Vehicle Limited Warranty covered repairing or replacing any parts due to defective material or workmanship. As of 2022, this warranty has expired.
The New Vehicle Limited Warranty didn’t cover normal wear and tear, fluid changes, broken or chipped windows, or cosmetic damages.
2012 Honda Pilot Powertrain Warranty
The 2012 Honda Pilot came with a Powertrain Warranty that covered mechanical components for up to five years or 60,000 miles. The Powertrain Warranty included the engine, transmission and transaxle, front-wheel-drive system, and all-wheel-drive system. As of 2022, this warranty has expired.
Corrosion Perforation Warranty
The Rust Perforation Limited Warranty covered the repair or replacement of perforated panels of your 2012 Honda Pilot for up to five years with no mileage limit. As of 2022, this warranty has expired.
Only the original owner of the 2012 Honda Pilot could make a Rust Perforation Limited Warranty claim. The warranty didn’t cover surface rust, rust from abuse or misuse, or rust from road hazards. The warranty also excluded rust from the vehicle being immersed in water, mud, or sand and the cost of paint matching services after replacement.
Air Conditioning Warranty
The 2012 Honda Pilot didn’t come with a separate Air Conditioning Warranty. The Basic Warranty also covered the air conditioning system. The cost of recharging the air conditioning refrigerant was only covered for up to one year. This warranty is now expired.
Paint Warranty
A separate Paint Warranty was not included with the 2012 Honda Pilot, but some paint defects were covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. This warranty has now expired.
Battery Warranty
Unlike earlier years, there was no separate battery warranty for the 2012 Pilot. The battery was covered under the Basic Warranty of three years or 36,000 miles. This has now expired.
Tire Warranty
The 2012 Honda Pilot Basic Warranty didn’t include tire coverage. Tires were covered under a separate warranty through the tire manufacturer. You can contact your nearest Honda dealership to find out who holds your Tire Warranty. Keep in mind that any warranty these tires might have had is now likely expired. Most Pilots won’t even have their original tires anymore.
Emissions Warranty
The Federal Emissions Warranty for the 2012 Honda Pilot covered emissions control systems-related repairs for three years or 36,000 miles. Vehicles sold in California and states following their stricter standards were covered for three years or 50,000 miles, with some systems covered for seven years or 70,000 miles. These states include Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.
In addition, the Clean Air Act requires all vehicle manufacturers to cover certain components, including the engine computer, onboard diagnostics, and catalytic converter, for eight years or 80,000 miles.
As of 2022, all of these warranties have expired.
