Factory Warranty
2017 Honda Civic Basic Warranty
The 2017 Honda Civic had a three-year, 36,000-mile manufacturer’s warranty starting on the original date of delivery or leasing. As of 2022, this has now expired. It covered free repairs or replacements of parts that are defective under normal use. Exclusions included normal wear and tear and most window glass damage.
2017 Honda Civic Powertrain Warranty
The 2017 Honda Civic has a five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty that covers powertrain components such as the engine, transmission, and transaxle, and front-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive systems. As of 2022, this is either about to expire or already has.
Corrosion Perforation Warranty
The 2017 Honda Civic has a five-year unlimited mileage corrosion perforation warranty. If you are the car’s original owner, this warranty covers you for repair or replacement of any body panels rusted completely from the inside out.
Air Conditioning Warranty
Honda’s original limited warranty covered air conditioner refrigerant for two years or 24,000 miles. While there were no recalls, Honda extended the warranty for drivers impacted by faulty condensers to 10 years and unlimited miles, as detailed in the FAQs.
Paint Warranty
Your basic warranty doesn’t usually cover paint. If there were flaws on delivery, you could notify the dealer to correct the problem. The rust perforation warranty also doesn’t cover rust caused by paint damage from road debris or painting the vehicle for paint matching.
Battery Warranty
The factory warranty covers the covers the battery for 100 months. You would get free replacement batteries and installation from Honda dealers for the first 36 months. A partial prorated battery credit of 5% to 60% applies for the remaining 64 months.
Emissions Warranty
The federal emissions warranty covers your Civic’s emissions systems for three years or 36,000 miles, as long as you follow the maintenance schedule. Honda must also cover the catalytic converter, engine computer, and on-board diagnostic system for eight years or 80,000 miles, according to the Clean Air Act. If your Civic fails an EPA-approved emissions test in this period, Honda will help your vehicle comply with emissions standards for free.

2017 Honda Civic Warranty Extensions Available Upon Car Purchase
A Honda Care plan for a new 2017 Honda Civic was available from a Honda dealer before the factory warranty expired. This extended warranty covered the repair or replacement of parts, including the engine, transmission, axles, electronics, and air conditioning for up to eight years or 120,000 miles.
These warranties are transferrable to subsequent owners and might still be in effect for your car. To find out if you have one, contact your local Honda dealer, and provide your VIN and current mileage. They will look up your car and let you know.
2017 Honda Civic Extended Warranties Available Now
Since the Basic Warranty has already expired, you can no longer get a Honda Care VSC for the 2017 Civic. A powertrain VSC may still be available if you bought your car in late 2017, but this will soon expire if it hasn’t already. Third-party extended warranties are still available, however.

FAQs
Below are answers to frequently asked questions about the Honda Civic warranty:
Are there any warranty differences between the 2017 Honda Civic models?
There are no differences between the warranties issued for any 2017 Honda Civic models. You’ll have the same warranty whether you bought a Civic coupe, hatchback, sedan, Si coupe, Si sedan, or Type R.
Has the 2017 Honda Civic warranty expired?
As of 2022, most of the standard warranties have expired. If you have not exceeded 60,000 miles, your five-year powertrain warranty may still be in effect, but will expire soon. However, the generous seat belt warranty will remain valid until 2032 or until you travel 150,000 miles. If you are the original owner, the seat belt warranty, a portion of the replacement battery limited warranty, and the replacement exhaust components lifetime limited warranty still apply. If you had problems with your air conditioning condenser, it might also be covered (see next section).
Did Honda extend the coverage for air conditioners?
Honda extended the air conditioner warranty for the 2017 Honda Civic to 10 years from the purchase date and unlimited miles. The warranty only covers air conditioners with defective condensers and tiny holes from a manufacturing fault. It does not cover leaky AC systems with other causes.
What repairs aren't covered by Honda warranties?
Honda won’t cover repairs on parts that fail because they aren’t maintained according to the manufacturer’s service schedule. This includes parts damaged because you have not changed or topped off the engine oil or radiator coolant as required. For more information, we have an entire article about what might void a car warranty.
Do you need to visit your dealer's service center to maintain your warranty?
While visiting your dealership’s service center makes record-keeping easy, it’s not a condition of your 2017 Honda Civic warranty. You can visit any mechanic you trust or do the work yourself. If you do this, keep all your receipts and a logbook of work you perform to provide evidence of regular servicing. You will need to prove to Honda that this work has been completed and that you still qualify for warranty coverage.
Does a Honda dealer need to perform warranty repairs?
In most cases, a Honda dealer performs your warranty repairs. However, Honda might reimburse you for work from non-Honda mechanics covered under warranty in emergencies. Expect a refund if your vehicle wasn’t fit to drive and you could not find an open Honda dealership within 50 miles.
Can you use your warranty outside the United States?
Your Civic warranty covers use inside the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. If you plan to travel outside the U.S. in your Civic, you can contact the Honda Automobile Customer Service Center for advice.
If your factory warranty has expired and you’re looking to reduce out-of-pocket expenses, be sure to check out the CARCHEX+FIXD Vehicle Protection Plan.
