What’s Included in Your 2017 Honda HR-V Warranty?

Honda has an excellent reputation for backing up its vehicles with strong Factory Warranties (also known as Manufacturer’s Warranties). It’s nice to know that your 2017 Honda HR-V came with several of them. If you’re wondering which ones are still valid for your 2017 HR-V, we’ll help you figure it out.

Keep in mind that warranty terms are often described in terms of time and mileage, as in “two years/24,000 miles.” This means that you get two years’ worth of coverage unless you hit 24,000 on the odometer — in which case the coverage ends early.

Does your 2017 have coverage for tires, paint, or air conditioning? We’ll answer those questions for you. Do any of your warranties last for the lifetime of your 2017 HR-V? We’ll answer that question and others in the FAQs section you can find at the bottom of this article.

Factory Warranty

2017 Honda HR-V Basic Warranty

The 2017 Honda HR-V came with a three-year, 36,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty that is now expired. This comprehensive warranty covered most of the HR-V’s major parts or repairs due to poor workmanship or defect in the material. This warranty did not cover normal wear and tear or broken or chipped glass unless there was an issue with the glass from poor installation, workmanship, or a defect in the glass itself.

2017 Honda HR-V Powertrain Warranty

The 2017 Honda HR-V came with a five-year, 60,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty that has likely expired. With this warranty, Honda would have made repairs or replaced parts for the engine, transmission, transaxle, and front-wheel-drive systems due to defects in materials or poor workmanship. This was an important warranty as it covered and replaced expensive parts within the powertrain as well as providing a Drivetrain Warranty.

Corrosion Perforation Warranty

The 2017 Honda HR-V came with a five-year, unlimited mileage Rust Perforation Limited Warranty sometimes referred to as a Corrosion Perforation Warranty. The Rust Perforation Limited Warranty has either already expired on your 2017 Honda HR-V or will expire very soon. This warranty coverage included repairs or replacement of any body panels damaged from rust from the inside out. However, it did not cover surface rust on the undercarriage of your 2017 HR-V or rust damage caused by sand, mud, or immersion in water.

Air Conditioning Warranty

While the 2017 Honda HR-V did not come with a separate air conditioning warranty, under the three-year or 36,000-mile Federal Emissions Systems coverage (or three years/50,000 miles under the California Emissions Warranty), Honda would have made repairs or replacement parts to the air conditioning system. However, this coverage has expired for your 2017 Honda HR-V. As part of the Limited Warranty Coverage under the now-expired New Vehicle Limited Warranty, Honda would have replaced the air conditioning refrigerant for two years or 24,000 miles. You no longer have this coverage for your 2017 HR-V.

Paint Warranty

The 2017 Honda HR-V has no paint warranty and did not come with one, even when the HR-V was new. However, when the New Vehicle Limited Warranty was still valid under the three-year or 36,000-mile coverage, Honda would have made repairs to any paint damage from defects or faulty workmanship. The New Vehicle Limited Warranty is now expired for your 2017 HR-V.

Battery Warranty

The 2017 Honda HR-V’s 12-volt battery was covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty for the first three years or 36,000 miles of ownership. This coverage has now expired.

Tire Warranty

The 2017 Honda HR-V did not come with a tire warranty. The original manufacturer of your tire brand generally provides warranty coverage. In the original brochure, you’ll find contact information for major tire brands like:

Emissions Warranty

The 2017 Honda HR-V once had a three-year or 36,000-mile Federal Emissions Warranty that has now expired for your 2017 HR-V. Some drivers may have instead been covered under the three-year, 50,000-mile California Emissions Warranty, which has also expired. When the warranty was valid, it covered systems for exhaust, ignition, intake air, and the air conditioning system.

In addition, the manufacturer must cover the catalytic converter, engine computer, and onboard diagnostics for eight years or 80,000 miles under the Clean Air Act’s standards.

2017 Honda HR-V Warranty Extensions Available Upon Car Purchase

The 2017 Honda HR-V could have had an extended warranty called Honda Care. This extended service contract is valid for eight years or 120,000 miles, so you might still have coverage if you purchased it before your New Vehicle Limited Warranty expired.

FAQs

Here are some answers to common questions about the 2017 Honda HR-V:

Yes, it does. Honda gave the 2017 HR-V a Replacement Exhaust Components Lifetime Limited Warranty that is still valid. With this lifetime warranty, Honda will replace or repair key exhaust parts including the muffler, A-pipe, and B-pipe. This coverage is only valid if the exhaust components were sold through an authorized Honda Automobile Division and were installed by a Honda automobile dealership.

Yes, your 2017 Honda HR-V does have an extensive Seat Belt Limited Warranty that covers 15 years or 150,000 miles. Honda will cover the cost of repairs or replacement of the seat belt components due to defects or failure during normal use. Honda will not cover the costs of seat belt parts if the issues are cosmetic, the parts were misused, or damage occurred in a collision.

Yes, the 2017 Honda HR-V has a Replacement Battery Limited Warranty that covers your 12-volt battery for 100 months. Honda would have replaced a defective battery at no cost to you for the first 36 months, and after that, they will give you credit toward the purchase of a new one based on a specific time frame. Once the time frame of 100 months is up, you can always buy a new battery from the Honda dealership and replace it yourself by following these simple instructions.

Extended warranties like Honda Care can help cover the cost of repairs or replacement parts after your original factory warranty has expired. Though Honda Care is expensive, many turn to it for peace of mind and potential savings. However, it must be purchased before the original three-year factory warranty expires, so if you don’t have it already, it’s far too late.

Because most of your warranties have already expired for the 2017 Honda HR-V, consider getting extra vehicle protection. It may save you thousands of dollars in repair costs.

If your factory warranty has expired and you’re looking to reduce out-of-pocket expenses, be sure to check out the FIXD+CARCHEX Vehicle Protection Plan.
