Factory Warranty
2020 Honda Civic Basic Warranty
Honda’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty is good for the first three years of ownership or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first, and covers parts that are defective due to faulty materials or manufacturing errors. All repairs and replacements under the warranty are performed at no cost to the owner.
The warranty period begins when:
- An authorized Honda dealer delivers the vehicle to the first purchaser
- Someone leases the vehicle
- The vehicle is used as a demonstrator or company car
The warranty doesn’t cover:
- Damage caused by normal wear and tear
- Cleaning and polishing
- Adding fluids that aren’t necessary for a warranty repair
- Window glass with chips or scratches that aren’t due to defects
- Cosmetic flaws or minor damage not caused by material defects
- Routine maintenance like an air filter or brake pad replacement
- Tires (warranted by the tire manufacturer)
Honda’s basic warranty also covers the following components for a limited time:
- Key fob and remote batteries for the first six months of ownership
- Wiper blade inserts for the first six months of ownership
- Wheel balancing and alignment for the first year of ownership or up to 12,000 miles
- Air conditioner refrigerant for the first two years of ownership or up to 24,000 miles
2020 Honda Civic Powertrain Warranty
The 2020 Civic comes with a powertrain limited warranty that starts the same day as the basic warranty. It’s good for five years or 60,000 miles. If a part is defective because of faulty material or manufacturing, Honda will make the necessary repair or replacement free of charge.
The powertrain limited warranty covers the following parts:
- Engine (including the cylinder head, timing gears and gaskets, and fuel pump)
- Transmission and transaxle (including the torque converter and all internal parts)
- Front-wheel-drive system (including the final drive housing, driveshafts, and constant velocity joints)
Corrosion Perforation Warranty
Original owners can take advantage of a rust perforation limited warranty that’s good for five years with no mileage limit. The warranty covers body panel repairs or replacements when the panels rust completely from the inside out.
The warranty doesn’t cover:
- Surface rust on the underbody
- Rusting of body panels that have already been repaired or replaced, unless they were repaired under the current warranty
- Body panel rust due to lack of maintenance
- Rust caused by debris-damaged paint
- Rust due to immersion in water, mud, or corrosive chemicals
- Paint matching for the entire vehicle
- Subsequent owners after the original purchaser
Air Conditioning Warranty
While there is no separate air conditioning warranty, the basic warranty covers air conditioner refrigerant for up to two years or 24,000 miles. The Honda Care new vehicle, pre-owned vehicle, and certified additional coverage plans offer coverage for the air conditioning and heating systems.
In certain instances, the federal emissions warranty will also cover your 2020 Honda Civic’s air conditioner.
Paint Warranty
There is no warranty specifically for the paint. The basic warranty only covers paint flaws that are a result of defects in material or workmanship. It does not cover damage that occurs after the car leaves the factory, including damage during shipping.
Battery Warranty
Your battery is covered by a limited warranty good for 100 months. The warranty will cover your replacement battery if you purchase it from an authorized Honda dealership.
For the first 36 months of the warranty, Honda will replace defective batteries free of charge. For the remainder of the warranty, Honda will issue a pro-rated credit toward the battery purchase, but the owner is responsible for installation costs.
Emissions Warranty
The 2020 Honda Civic comes with a federal emissions warranty good for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Additionally, the Clean Air Act requires manufacturers to cover your catalytic converter, engine computer, and onboard diagnostic system for up to eight years or 80,000 miles. If your Honda Civic fails an EPA-approved emissions short test while under warranty, Honda will make the necessary repairs at no cost to you.
The federal emissions warranty covers the following components:
- Catalytic converter
- Engine computer
- Crankcase control system
- Evaporative and refueling emissions control systems
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) System
- Exhaust system
- Ignition system
- Fuel injection system
- OBD system
- Transmission control system
- Intake air system
- Valve control system
- Hybrid powertrain system (includes Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) System)
