Understanding what’s included in the 2009 Honda Accord factory warranty is helpful for all owners of this particular make and model. If you still have questions, review the FAQ section at the bottom for detailed answers.
Factory Warranty
2009 Honda Accord Basic Warranty
All new 2009 Honda Accord models included a factory warranty that protected most components for three years or 36,000 miles. This coverage has now expired.
The basic warranty coverage began on the date the owner took possession of the 2009 Accord. It covered the repair or replacement of all components except those within the powertrain, emissions control systems, and tires. These components qualified for separate warranty coverage, outlined in more detail below. Additionally, chipped or broken window glass didn’t qualify for coverage unless the issue was the result of a manufacturer’s defect.
2009 Honda Accord Powertrain Warranty
The 2009 Honda Accord included a powertrain warranty, which covered the key components that allow the vehicle to run for five years or 60,000 miles. The coverage has expired.
Honda’s powertrain warranty covered most components, including the timing gears and gaskets, cylinder head, timing belt or chain, and other internal parts. If any of these components were found to be defective in workmanship or quality under normal use, Honda would repair or replace them at no cost to the vehicle owner.
Corrosion Perforation Warranty
A rust perforation limited warranty was included on all 2009 Honda Accord models. It lasted for five years with no mileage limit in effect and has now expired.
Under this warranty coverage, Honda would repair or replace body panels that rusted from the inside out caused by corrosion. However, corrosion and rust in other places, such as the underbody, did not qualify for coverage under this limited warranty. Additionally, rust caused by a lack of maintenance, misuse, or abuse voided the warranty. It was not transferable between owners.
Air Conditioning Warranty
Although the air conditioning system maintained coverage under the basic warranty offered on the 2009 Honda Accord, it did not have its own separate warranty. The basic limited warranty has expired.
Honda did offer coverage for the refrigerant in the vehicle for the first year. Any refrigerant needs that arose after the first year did not qualify for coverage unless they were necessary as part of a repair under warranty.
Paint Warranty
Honda also didn’t offer a separate paint warranty on the 2009 Honda Accord. The limited warranty covered exterior paint if a workmanship or material defect caused an issue during the three-year coverage period, which has expired.
In some cases, an Accord sustained paint damage during the manufacturing or shipping process prior to the buyer taking ownership of the vehicle. However, dealerships perform thorough inspections on models that arrive on the lots and correct these issues prior to purchase.
Battery Warranty
The 2009 Honda Accord included a warranty on the original battery installed at the time of manufacture, which lasted for three years with unlimited mileage. This warranty has since expired.
Coverage for the original battery began on the same day as the limited warranty went into effect. If an Accord’s battery was found to be defective during the covered period, Honda offered diagnosis, labor, and installation of a new battery at no charge. Replacement batteries are usually covered against defects by a prorated warranty that can span anywhere from two to eight years depending on the particular battery.
Tire Warranty
The warranty on the tires installed on a 2009 Honda Accord came from the manufacturer rather than from Honda. Based on the time that has passed since the 2009 Accord was released, it’s unlikely that any tire warranty would remain in effect.
The most common tire brands used on this particular model included:
- Yokohama
- Firestone/Bridgestone
- Goodyear/Dunlop
- Michelin
Tire warranties vary in length and coverage.
Emissions Warranty
Honda’s emissions-related defects and performance warranties included coverage for all related components for three years or 36,000 miles. The Clean Air Act also requires automotive manufacturers to cover the onboard diagnostics, engine computer, and catalytic converter for eight years or 80,000 miles. All emissions coverage has expired.
Drivers in certain states also qualified for additional warranty coverage under the California Emissions Warranties. California was the first state to adopt more stringent emissions regulations, but other states have since followed suit. The 2009 Accord included coverage for seven years and 70,000 miles in the following states:
- California
- Connecticut
- Maine
- Massachusetts
- New Jersey
- Oregon
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- Vermont
- Washington
All emissions warranties excluded the following:
- Malfunctions or failures of the emissions control systems caused by accident, misuse, abuse, alteration, or the use of leaded fuel
- Consequential damages, including loss of use of the vehicle or time
- Replacement of maintenance components, such as lubricants, hoses, belts, filters, coolant, spark plugs, etc.
Warranty coverage included these systems:
- Crankcase control
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR)
- Intake air
- Fuel injection
- Exhaust
- Evaporative and refueling emissions control
- Ignition
- Valve control
- Transmission control
- Integrated motor assist (IMA) on hybrid models

2009 Honda Accord Warranty Extensions Available Upon Car Purchase

FAQs
Check out some frequently asked questions about the 2009 Honda Accord warranty.
How Long Was Honda's Factory Warranty?
The factory warranty on a 2009 Honda Accord lasted for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever came first. Any genuine accessories installed at the time of vehicle purchase also qualified for a limited warranty that lasted for the same period of time.
How Can You Check if Your Warranty Is Still in Effect?
A 2009 Honda Accord would not qualify for any of its new-car warranty coverages, as all of these have expired. However, a third-party extended warranty can provide added protection well beyond the end of the standard warranty period.
Does a 2009 Honda Accord Warranty Transfer to Another Owner?
Most warranty coverage included on a new Honda transferred to the next owner, with the exception of the rust perforation warranty. That coverage was only in effect for the first owner.
What Is Excluded From Coverage on a 2009 Honda Accord?
The Honda limited warranty excluded costs associated with routine maintenance, parts designed to wear out and require replacement with normal use, and damage caused by collisions, abuse, or misuse.
