Factory Warranty

2016 Honda Accord Basic Warranty

The 2016 Honda Accord Basic Warranty, or New Vehicle Limited Warranty, went into effect on the day of your vehicle’s delivery. It was valid for three years or up to 36,000 miles and is now expired. It covered parts and repairs for damages from normal wear and tear or defective workmanship. For the first six months, the warranty covered the key fob, remotes, and OEM wiper blade inserts. This warranty didn’t cover cleaning and polishing, the addition of any fluids, or the replacement of chipped, scratched, or broken glass not caused by a manufacturing defect.

2016 Honda Accord Powertrain Warranty

The Powertrain Warranty for the 2016 Honda Accord was good for five years or up to 60,000 miles. It covered the engine, transmission, transaxle, and front-wheel-drive or rear-wheel-drive system. Any necessary repair or replacement would have been covered at no charge, but this warranty has expired.

For the engine, the warranty covered these parts:

  • Cylinder block
  • Timing gears and gaskets
  • Timing chain/belt and cover
  • Flywheel
  • Valve covers
  • Oil pan
  • Oil pump
  • Intake and exhaust manifolds
  • Engine mounts
  • Control module
  • Water pump
  • Fuel pump
  • Seals and gaskets

The transmission included these parts:

  • Case
  • Torque converter
  • Transfer case
  • Control module
  • Seals and gaskets

Corrosion Perforation Warranty

an old rusty car

A 2016 Honda Accord’s original owner was the only one who could have made a claim for the Corrosion or Rust Perforation Limited Warranty. This warranty was in effect for five years and had no mileage limits. The coverage for the warranty is now expired. It covered the replacement of panels that rusted through. If panels weren’t completely rusted through, Honda would determine whether to repair or replace them at no charge to the vehicle’s original owner.

The Rust Perforation Limited Warranty didn’t cover surface rust on the underbody of the vehicle, rust damage caused by road debris or hazards, rust from the vehicle being immersed in water, mud, or sand, or rust from misuse. Paint matching was also not part of this warranty’s coverage.

Air Conditioning Warranty

car air conditioner freshness

There is no separate Air Conditioning Warranty for the 2016 Honda Accord. The vehicle’s air conditioning system was covered under the Emissions Warranty for three years or up to 36,000 miles, whichever came first. This warranty is no longer valid. If you needed your air conditioner’s refrigerant recharged, it would have been covered for two years or up to 24,000 miles under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, but this time frame has also passed.

Paint Warranty

A Paint Warranty was not included for the 2016 Honda Accord. The manufacturer doesn’t warranty any item involving the cosmetic appearance of a vehicle. If you noticed any flaws in the paint job or body of your Accord, you should have brought them to the dealer’s attention immediately.

Battery Warranty

During the first three years of ownership, your Honda Accord’s battery was covered for all replacement, labor, and installation costs. After this time, Honda will replace the battery at a percentage of its replacement cost for an additional 64 months. This warranty still provides some coverage for battery replacement. You will be responsible for labor and installation costs because the three-year period has passed.

The battery limited warranty provided with the 2016 Honda Accord does not apply to the high-voltage traction battery. This hybrid battery is covered under the Accord’s Hybrid System Warranty, which is good for eight years or 100,000 miles.

Tire Warranty

Your 2016 Honda Accord warranty doesn’t cover the tires, even if they are original to the vehicle. Tires are covered by a manufacturer warranty, but your Honda dealer can help you find out if your tires are still under warranty and who manufactured them. The tires that come on most Hondas are from reputable manufacturers, including:

Emissions Warranty

pollution from the exhaust of cars in the city in the winter. Smoke from cars on a cold winter day

Your 2016 Honda Accord had an Emissions Warranty that covered all components related to the system for three years or 36,000 miles and up to 50,000 miles in California. The coverage would pay for any parts and labor to maintain the system. This warranty is now expired.

It covered the following parts of your 2016 Accord’s emissions system:

  • Crankcase control system
  • Evaporative and refueling emissions control systems
  • Exhaust gas recirculation system
  • Exhaust system
  • Ignition system
  • Fuel injection system
  • OBD-II system
  • Transmission control system
  • Intake air system
  • Valve control system
  • Hybrid powertrain system

This warranty might also cover the carburetor or fuel injection system, ignition system, catalytic converter, and engine computer. Additionally, the Clean Air Act requires manufacturers to cover the catalytic converter, engine computer, and onboard diagnostics for eight years or 80,000 miles.

FAQs

If you have more questions about the warranty for your 2016 Honda Accord, review these frequently asked questions and answers:

If you have a hybrid powertrain under the hood of your 2016 Honda Accord, then you were covered by the Hybrid Powertrain Warranty. This warranty was in addition to the coverage provided by the New Vehicle Limited Warranty and started on the same day. It covered the costs associated with repairing or replacing the integrated motor assist system and other components related to the functioning of the hybrid powertrain.

The seat belts in the Honda Accord are covered under warranty for 15 years or up to 150,000 miles. This warranty should still be active for your Honda Accord. It only covers replacement or damage to seat belts due to a manufacturer defect or normal wear and tear. It doesn’t pay to replace the seat belts for comfort or cosmetic reasons or if the seat belts are damaged from an accident, alterations, or abuse.

There is a Replacement and Remanufactured Parts Limited Warranty for the 2016 Honda Accord. This warranty paid for replacement parts for up to one year or for the remainder of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, whichever came first, regardless of where the parts were installed. For remanufactured parts, the warranty was good for up to three years or 36,000 miles if they were installed by a Honda dealer. If you bought the parts from a Honda dealer but had them installed by someone else, they were still covered under warranty for three years.

Any accessories installed on your 2016 Honda Accord before retail sale were covered under the Accessory Limited Warranty. These parts had the same coverage period as the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. If your car has accessories that were installed after retail sale but by a Honda dealer, they’re covered for the time remaining on the New Vehicle Limited Warranty or one year. Honda won’t cover repair costs for accessories if you have no proof of purchase, the parts weren’t installed properly, or the accessories aren’t made specifically for the 2016 Accord.

Now you know what’s covered and what’s not with your 2016 Honda Accord Warranty. If your factory warranty has expired and you’re looking to reduce out-of-pocket expenses, be sure to check out the FIXD+CARCHEX Vehicle Protection Plan.
