What’s Included in Your 2018 Honda Accord Warranty?

If you own a 2018 Honda Accord, you might wonder if it still has a factory warranty. You might also want to know what the warranty covers. If your vehicle needs a repair, you need to know if the manufacturer’s warranty covers it.

Warranty durations listed below are in terms of time or mileage. This means if your warranty is valid for three years or 36,000 miles, it lasts until your vehicle reaches 36,000 miles or until it’s three years old, whichever happens first.

Factory Warranty

The factory warranty, also known as a manufacturer’s warranty, is a guarantee that the manufacturer will repair or replace parts related to a manufacturer’s defect. A factory warranty provides reassurance that the car is safe and reliable.

2018 Honda Accord Basic Warranty

The 2018 Honda Accord came with a New Vehicle Limited Warranty, which lasted three years or 36,000 miles. Some vehicle parts still have separate coverage under different warranties such as the Powertrain and Perforation/Corrosion Warranties.

The New Vehicle Limited Warranty did not cover normal wear and tear of vehicle parts, nor did it cover cleaning, polishing, or adding fluids to the car. It did not cover broken, chipped, or scratched window glass or paint unless related to a manufacturer’s defect. Additionally, maintenance items, such as brake pads and filters, were not covered when the original problem was related to wear or abuse. This warranty provided free repair and replacement for any defects caused by faulty materials or workmanship.

2018 Honda Accord Powertrain Warranty

The 2018 Honda Accord came with a Powertrain Warranty, which lasts five years or 60,000 miles.  This warranty provides free repair and replacement for any defects caused by faulty materials or workmanship. This warranty is likely still active for your 2018 Honda Accord.

Corrosion Perforation Warranty

The rust perforation limited warranty allows the vehicle’s original owner or lessee to make a claim if any part of the vehicle’s body rusted completely through from the inside out. Coverage is still available because the warranty is valid for five years.

On the other hand, any rust that does not perforate but is caused by a factory defect was covered by the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, which has expired. The corrosion perforation warranty does not cover surface rust on the vehicle’s body or underbody. It doesn’t cover paint matching, body panel rust caused by lack of maintenance, and rust caused by immersion in water.

Air Conditioning Warranty

While there is no specific air conditioning warranty coverage for the 2018 Honda Accord, some coverage was available under the Federal Emissions System Coverage for defective workmanship or parts. Additionally, refrigerant was covered for the first two years or 24,000 miles under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Paint Warranty

No specific warranty covers paint for the 2018 Honda Accord. Some components of the Rust Perforation Limited Warranty, which lasts five years, might apply to vehicle paint. However, the warranty does not cover paint matching. The New Vehicle Limited Warranty, which is now out of date, only covered paint damage related to vehicle manufacturing or shipping.

Battery Warranty

The 12-volt battery was covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty for three years or 36,000 miles. This coverage has now expired. There is a Replacement Battery Limited Warranty for the 2018 Honda Accord. These batteries are still covered under the warranty, which lasts 100 months.

During the first 36 months of coverage, defective replacement batteries were replaced at no cost. For the remainder of the warranty period, owners will receive a credit toward a replacement battery they purchase.

Tire Warranty

The 2018 Honda Accord does not come with a Honda warranty. The tires might have individual warranties from their manufacturers. A dealer can provide more information about where the vehicle tires originated.

Emissions Warranty

The 2018 Honda Accord came with an emissions warranty. The Federal Emissions warranty was in addition to the Honda New Vehicle Limited Warranty, but it lasted three years or 36,000 miles. Qualified vehicles were those with emissions issues related to factory defects. Honda covered maintenance, replacement, and repair of emissions control devices. If the vehicle failed an EPA-approved emissions test, Honda would make adjustments, replacements, and repairs when necessary.

Not all parts were covered as part of the emissions warranty. For instance, the warranty didn’t cover malfunctions caused by accidents, misuse, or abuse of the vehicle. Additionally, the warranty didn’t cover the replacement of maintenance items such as filters, hoses, belts, and spark plugs.

Honda Accord owners in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington might have additional coverage under the California Emissions Warranties provided by Honda.

Some parts might still be under warranty. According to the Clean Air Act, manufacturers are required to cover some components, including the engine computer, catalytic converter, and on-board diagnostics for eight years or 80,000 miles.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 2018 Honda Accord warranty brochure warns against misusing or overloading the sedan. The vehicle’s repairs and replacements were also not covered if the problem was caused by an accident or a natural disaster. A damaged or changed odometer would also void the warranty. Vehicle abuse and misuse or unapproved alterations could also void the warranty. Finally, a salvaged car title means the warranty is no longer applicable.

The vehicle owner is responsible for all maintenance listed in the Honda owner’s manual. The Honda warranty brochure recommends keeping receipts related to all maintenance for your 2018 Honda Accord. However, failing to provide maintenance does not necessarily void the warranty.

The New Vehicle Limited Warranty has expired for the 2018 Honda Accord. Some warranty coverage, including powertrain, corrosion/perforation, and emissions coverage, may still apply. The best way to know if a vehicle is still covered is to check the warranty booklet or contact Honda.

The 2018 Honda Accord powertrain warranty covers the vehicle’s engine, transmission, and drivetrain. On the other hand, a bumper-to-bumper warranty covers most essential components of your vehicle. It does not cover issues related to normal wear and tear.
