Factory Warranty
2018 Honda CR-V Basic Warranty
The 2018 Honda CR-V offered a new vehicle limited warranty, which is also referred as a basic warranty or a bumper-to-bumper warranty. This warranty lasted three years or 36,000 miles. It covered defective components with problems caused by faulty work or parts during manufacturing. Some vehicle components had separate coverage that may last longer.
This warranty did not cover cleaning, maintenance, or normal wear and tear. It also did not cover adding fluids to the car, unless they were part of a necessary repair. Additionally, the warranty did not cover problems related to abuse or misuse of the vehicle.
2018 Honda CR-V Powertrain Warranty
The 2018 Honda CR-V came with a powertrain warranty that covers the vehicle for five years or 60,000 miles. This warranty coverage may still be available for your vehicle, and it covers components like the engine and transmission.
In 2019, Honda announced that it was extending the powertrain warranty on certain 2017-18 CR-Vs equipped with the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine due to a rare issue where gasoline could mix with the engine oil. More than one million CR-Vs (and Civics) were affected by this issue, which Honda says was a rare occurrence, that could cause the engine to stall, and the powertrain warranty has been extended by one year with no mileage limits.
Corrosion Perforation Warranty
Honda offers a rust perforation limited warranty, which allows the original owner or lessee of the Honda CR-V to make a corrosion claim. A claim is valid if a body panel has rusted through completely from the inside out. This coverage is available for five years with an unlimited mileage cap.
If the rust does not perforate the vehicle, the warranty may no longer cover it. Rust that did not eat through the vehicle may have been covered by the expired new vehicle limited warranty. Additionally, Honda does not guarantee paint matching.
Air Conditioning Warranty
The 2018 Honda CR-V did not have specific air conditioning warranty coverage, but this system is covered under the Federal Emissions Warranty for three years or 36,000 miles (three years or 50,000 miles in California).
Additionally, the air conditioner refrigerant is covered for two years or 24,000 miles unless required as part of a repair covered under the Federal Emissions Warranty.
Paint Warranty
Coverage for the 2018 Honda CR-V did not cover paint. Some aspects of the rust perforation limited warranty may apply to paint. However, the warranty does not guarantee paint matching.
Battery Warranty
The new vehicle limited warranty covered the 12-volt battery for three years or 36,000 miles. This coverage is expired. Under the replacement battery limited warranty for the 2018 Honda CR-V, some coverage is still available.
For the first 36 months of coverage, the vehicle’s battery could be replaced at no cost to the owner. For the remaining 64 months, owners will receive a percentage of the replacement costs.
Tire Warranty
The 2018 Honda CR-V did not come with a tire warranty. The tire manufacturer may have offered a warranty. If you aren’t sure if you have warranty coverage for tires, the Honda dealership can connect you with the tire manufacturer.
Emissions Warranty
The 2018 Honda CR-V had a federal emissions warranty separate from the new vehicle limited warranty. This warranty lasted three years or 36,000 miles. Qualified repairs covered factory defects that may have caused vehicles to fail EPA-approved emissions tests.
Not every component is covered by the emissions warranty. For example, the 2018 Honda CR-V coverage did not include vehicle abuse or misuse. It also did not cover maintenance items, such as spark plugs, filters, and hoses. Keep in mind that Honda CR-V owners in some states, including California, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Oregon, and Connecticut, may have additional coverage under the California emissions warranty.
Even though the federal emissions warranty is expired, the 2018 Honda CR-V may still receive some coverage. The Clean Air Act requires that manufacturers cover components like the catalytic converter, engine computer, and onboard diagnostics for eight years or 80,000 miles.
