Factory Warranty

2019 Honda Civic Basic Warranty

The 2019 Honda Civic’s basic warranty, called the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, lasts for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. This warranty also covers wiper blades for the first six months, wheel balancing, and wheel alignment for the first 12 months or 12,000 miles.

The best way to see if your New Vehicle Limited Warranty is still valid is to call the dealership where you bought it. You’ll need the vehicle identification number (VIN) and the mileage, and then simply contact the dealership and they can help you with your warranty information.

2019 Honda Civic Powertrain Warranty

The 2019 Honda Civic Powertrain Warranty covers repairs or replacements for defective parts or workmanship for the engine, transmission and transaxle, and front-wheel-drive system. This warranty lasts for five years or 60,000 miles.

As a general rule, the Powertrain Warranty covers parts of the engine, including:

  • The engine block and internal parts
  • Timing gears and gaskets
  • Timing chain/belt and cover
  • Flywheel
  • Valve covers
  • Oil pan and pump
  • Intake and exhaust manifolds
  • Engine mounts
  • Engine/powertrain control module
  • Water pump
  • Fuel pump
  • Seals and gaskets

If you notice that your check engine light comes on, you’ll want to bring your car to the dealership and see if the part is covered under the Powertrain Warranty.

The transmission parts covered include:

  • Transmission case and internal parts
  • Transmission and powertrain control module
  • Seals and gaskets

Parts covered for the front-wheel-drive system include:

  • Final drive housing and internal parts
  • Driveshafts
  • Constant velocity joints
  • Front hubs and bearings
  • Seals and gaskets

Corrosion Perforation Warranty

The 2019 Honda Civic has a five-year, unlimited mileage Rust Perforation Limited Warranty. This warranty repairs or replaces body panels that rust through (rust perforation) or defects in workmanship.

This Rust Perforation Limited Warranty does not cover the following:

  • Surface rust on the underbody or other vehicle parts except for the body panels
  • Rusting caused by repairs or replacements not done under this warranty
  • Rust on the body panels caused by misuse or lack of maintenance
  • Any rust caused by immersion in water, mud, or sand
  • Rust caused by exposure to corrosive gas or industrial fallout

Air Conditioning Warranty

Although there is no separate warranty for the air conditioning, refrigerant is covered under the Basic Warranty for two years or 24,000 miles.

Paint Warranty

The 2019 Honda Civic does not have a separate paint warranty. However, if paint peels or chips due to defects or poor workmanship, speak to your dealership about repairs.

Battery Warranty

The 2019 Honda Civic 12-Volt Battery Limited Warranty has an overall time period of 100 months. During the first 36 months, Honda will replace the battery at no cost, including labor. For the remaining 64 months, Honda will discount the cost and the labor.

Honda breaks the discount down by time frame, and the credit price is based on current 12-volt battery prices. Discounts include:

  • Months 37 to 45: 60%
  • Months 46 to 55: 50%
  • Months 56 to 65: 40%
  • Months 66 to 75: 30%
  • Months 76 to 85: 20%
  • Months 86 to 95: 10%
  • Months 96 to 100: 5%

Emissions Warranty

The 2019 Honda Civic Federal Emissions Warranty is good for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Additionally, the Clean Air Act requires manufacturers to cover the catalytic converter, engine computer, and onboard diagnostics for eight years or 80,000 miles.

This warranty begins on the date the vehicle is delivered to the purchaser and covers parts if your 2019 Honda Civic fails an emission test. You may be covered for additional miles depending on your specific state. The California Emissions Warranty covers your Civic for three years or 50,000 miles.

Each state has specific emissions warranty coverage, so you’ll want to check the details for your state. In general, this warranty covers the following emissions systems:

  • Catalytic converter
  • Engine computer
  • Crankcase ventilation system
  • Evaporative and refueling emissions control systems
  • Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system
  • Exhaust system
  • Ignition system
  • Fuel injection system
  • OBD system
  • Transmission control system
  • Intake air system
  • Valve control system
  • Air conditioning system
  • Active grille shutter
  • Active seat ventilation

2019 Honda Civic Warranty Extensions Available Upon Car Purchase

An optional warranty extension called the Honda Care Vehicle Service Contract generally covers what’s included in your New Vehicle Limited Warranty. In addition, the warranty extension has the following features:

  • 24/7 roadside assistance
  • Rental car reimbursement
  • Trip interruption benefits
  • Concierge services for services such as emergency airline tickets or help with insurance claims

When you purchased this warranty extension from the dealership and used Honda Financial Services, you could roll the warranty extension cost into the auto loan. If you purchased this extended warranty when you bought your Civic, it should still be in effect.

2019 Honda Civic Extended Warranties Available Now

If you didn’t purchase an extended warranty when you first bought the car, you can still buy a Vehicle Service Contract from your local Honda dealership as long as your original New Vehicle Limited Warranty hasn’t expired yet. This extended warranty typically lasts for up to eight years or 120,000 miles. Third-party extended warranties are also available.

FAQs

The 2019 Honda Civic warranties are quite thorough and provide comprehensive coverage. Here are a few supplemental questions and answers that may cross your mind:

What Kind of Warranty Coverage Do I Have for the Brakes?

The brake components on your 2019 Honda Civic may or may not be covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, depending on the mileage of the car. In general, wear items such as brake pads, rotors, shoes, and drums aren’t covered. However, if there’s a defect in the brake booster, master cylinder, or calipers and your New Vehicle Limited Warranty is in effect, Honda will cover the cost of replacement and labor for these parts.

What Is the Warranty on Replacement Exhaust Components?

The 2019 Honda Civic Replacement Exhaust Components Lifetime Limited Warranty is valid as long as the exhaust components’ purchaser owns the 2019 Honda Civic on which the parts were installed.

This particular warranty does not cover the following:

  • Labor cost and removal if the defective exhaust component was not installed by an authorized Honda dealer
  • Exhaust parts like the gaskets, hangers, clamps, and mounting hardware
  • Other original equipment exhaust system parts that were installed while the New Vehicle Limited Warranty is in effect
  • Cost of parts or labor for additional repairs needed when replacing the defective exhaust components

What May Void Any Warranties?

If you carefully follow the warranty policies and have the parts repaired or replaced in the designated time frame, Honda will honor the warranty. Incidents that may void the warranty include:

  • Misuse of the part or accessory
  • Accidental damage
  • Acts of nature (comprehensive car insurance will cover this)
  • Low fluid level
  • Not using original equipment manufacturer’s parts
  • Using the Honda Civic in racing events
  • Installing parts not made for the 2019 Honda Civic
  • An altered odometer
  • A vehicle under warranty driven outside the United States or its territories
  • Improper modifications
  • A vehicle declared a total loss or sold for salvage, except for Emissions Warranties, Seat Belt Limited Warranty, or Replacement Parts Limited Warranty

If your factory warranty is about to expire and you’re looking to reduce out-of-pocket expenses, be sure to check out the CARCHEX+FIXD Vehicle Protection Plan.
