What’s Included in Your 2021 Honda Accord Warranty?

If you’ve purchased a 2021 Honda Accord, understanding the manufacturer’s warranty is important. If you need a repair, you need to know if it will be covered by the warranty. Of course, you also need to know what kind of warranty you have in the first place. For instance, will your warranty cover your tires? What about your car’s battery or air conditioner? If you aren’t even sure what warranty your vehicle came with, these can be difficult questions to answer.

This chart provides a brief overview of warranty coverage for your car, but there’s a lot more you should know about your coverage.

If you aren’t sure if you have a basic warranty, dealership warranty, or powertrain warranty, this article will help you figure out what’s covered and what isn’t. The first thing you need to know is that Honda’s new vehicle limited warranty covers your Accord for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. If you still have questions, check out the FAQs at the bottom of this article to learn more.

Factory Warranty

A factory warranty is a guarantee from the manufacturer to repair or replace defective parts on your Honda Accord. Your factory warranty pays for car repairs related to manufacturer defects. Under this umbrella, you’ll have several types of coverage.

2021 Honda Accord Basic Warranty

The basic warranty, also called the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, for the 2021 Honda Accord is valid for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. If you experience problems with your vehicle during this time frame, Honda will cover many of your repairs.

A few exceptions exist, however. The New Vehicle Limited Warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, cleaning, polishing, fluids, window glass (unless the damage is related to a manufacturer’s defect), and expendable maintenance items like filters.

2021 Honda Accord Powertrain Warranty

The 2021 Honda Accord Powertrain Warranty offers coverage for five years or 60,000 miles. This coverage includes repairs for the engine, transmission, transaxle, and front-wheel-drive system. The repairs cover defective products and workmanship that are part of your vehicle’s powertrain.

Corrosion Perforation Warranty

Your 2021 Honda Accord has a Rust Perforation Limited Warranty, but only the vehicle’s original owner or lessee can make a claim with this warranty. The coverage term for this warranty is five years with unlimited miles.

Honda will cover the replacement and repair of body panels that have been rusted through from the inside out. This warranty does not cover paint matching, surface rust on other parts of the vehicle, rust caused by abuse or lack of maintenance, or rust caused by water immersion.

Air Conditioning Warranty

While the 2021 Honda Accord doesn’t offer a separate warranty for its air conditioning system, the Federal Emissions Warranty covers emissions related to the air conditioner to help bring your vehicle into compliance if necessary. This is available during the first three years or 36,000 miles. Additionally, the New Vehicle Limited Warranty covers air conditioner refrigerant for two years or 24,000 miles.

Paint Warranty

The 2021 Honda Accord doesn’t offer a separate paint warranty. The New Vehicle Limited Warranty only covers defects in materials and workmanship as they relate to your vehicle’s appearance. It’s a good idea to point out any cosmetic defects, including paint defects or damage, as soon as possible after your vehicle has been delivered.

Battery Warranty

Honda’s Factory Warranty covers the 12-volt battery under the Basic Warranty of 3 years or 36,000 miles. Hybrid models include a high-voltage hybrid battery, which is covered by a High Voltage Battery Capacity Warranty of 8 years or 100,000 miles.

Hybrid batteries normally degrade slightly over time with use, so just because you experience a loss in range does not mean this warranty will cover a replacement. It is up to your Honda dealer to determine if your high-voltage battery has degraded faster than normal and qualifies for a replacement.

Tire Warranty

The 2021 Honda Accord does not come with its own tire warranty. Your original tires may have a warranty with the original manufacturer. Contact the manufacturer printed on the side of your tire for more information about any warranty they may have included.

Emissions Warranty

The Federal Emissions Warranty covers your vehicle’s emissions system for three years or 36,000 miles. The Clean Air Act also requires that manufacturers cover system parts such as the catalytic converter, onboard diagnostics, and engine computer for at least eight years or 80,000 miles.

Your warranty also covers repairs and replacements for issues related to your exhaust gas recirculation system, fuel injection system, intake air system, air conditioning system, and active seat ventilation.

If your vehicle is registered and driven in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, or Washington, you may qualify for additional coverage for your emissions control systems. The warranty period varies based on your state.

Here are a few frequently asked questions related to 2021 Honda Accord warranty coverage:

Coverage for your catalytic converter is included as part of the Federal Emissions Warranty due to the Clean Air Act. If the vehicle has a warrantable condition, repairs and replacement may be covered.

Honda covers seat belts that do not function properly for 15 years or 150,000 miles. Coverage begins on the same date as the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Honda will repair or replace a Honda seat belt component that doesn’t function properly, but it will not replace the seat belt for cosmetic or comfort reasons. Additionally, the warranty does not cover failure of seat belts related to abuse, misuse, or alteration.

Drivers who relocate outside of the United States may not be under warranty. The basic warranty covers Honda vehicles purchased, leased, and registered in the United States and its territories. A Honda registered and normally driven in another country may not be covered, and Honda dealers in other countries may not honor the warranty.

The Basic Warranty should cover any suspension problems during the first three years or 36,000 miles of ownership. While many issues with suspension are considered wear and tear, these should not occur within this period of time.

With a 2021 Honda Accord warranty, manufacturer defects and defective workmanship related to brakes are covered. However, the warranty does not cover maintenance items, such as brake pads, when they’re replaced due to normal wear or abuse.

The 2021 Honda Accord warranty covers manufacturer defects, but there are time and mileage limits to consider. If your factory warranty has expired and you’re looking to reduce out-of-pocket expenses, be sure to check out the CARCHEX+FIXD Vehicle Protection Plan. And remember, the best way to ensure warranty coverage (and prevent costly repairs in the first place) is to follow your manufacturer-recommended maintenance schedule.
