What Your 2021 Honda Passport Warranty Covers
The 2021 Honda Passport is an impressive piece of automotive technology. Its warranty covers many maintenance and repairs you might need over the years. However, the details can get complicated, as different vehicle parts are often protected under additional warranties. For example, the Factory Warranty, or Manufacturer’s Warranty, is just the beginning of everything Honda’s warranties cover.
When measuring how long your warranty coverage lasts, the term is based on years and mileage. Expiration occurs when you meet either threshold first. If your warranty is good for three years or 36,000 miles, for example, your warranty is up as soon as you reach one or the other. Because many aspects of your vehicle are covered separately, you’ll need to know the length of each warranty.
To help you better understand your coverage, we’ve compiled this handy chart that breaks down the warranty periods for you at a glance. If you still have questions, take a look at the FAQ section at the bottom of the page.

2021 Honda Passport Basic Warranty
Most components of your Passport will be covered by the Basic Warranty, also called the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, for three years or 36,000 miles. Some parts covered by the Basic Warranty might also be covered by additional warranties, while others are warrantied separately.
2021 Honda Passport Powertrain Warranty
The Powertrain Limited Warranty is good for five years or 60,000 miles. It covers several aspects of the powertrain, including the engine, transmission, and drivetrain, as long as the problem is due to a defect and not misuse. It does require you to keep the vehicle in proper operating condition, which means keeping up with maintenance and only engaging in proper operation.
Corrosion Perforation Warranty
The Rust Perforation Limited Warranty covers panels that rust all the way through from the inside for five years without any mileage limits. That means even if you put 100,000 miles on your Passport in four years, you’d still be covered. Replacement panels are only covered for the remainder of the original five-year term.
Air Conditioning Warranty
The air conditioner isn’t covered by its own warranty, but it’s included in the Basic Warranty, which lasts for three years or 36,000 miles. Air conditioning refrigerant is only covered for the first two years or 24,000 miles.
Honda does not offer a Paint Warranty. Only paint defects in materials or workmanship from the factory are covered by the Basic Warranty, and must be addressed upon delivery of the new vehicle. It does not include paint matching, even if the mismatched paint is due to a repair that another warranty covers.
The 2021 Honda Passport’s original battery is covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. This means that your 12-volt battery is covered for the first three years or 36,000 miles.
The tires on your 2021 Passport are warrantied separately by their manufacturer, not by Honda. You must contact the manufacturer directly to get details about your warranty limitations. Your local Honda dealer can point you in the right direction.
Your 2021 Honda Passport is covered under the Federal Emissions Warranty, which lasts for three years or 36,000 miles. If you live in California or certain other states, your coverage extends to 50,000 miles under the California Emissions Warranty, with some parts covered for 7 years or 70,000 miles. Other than California, those states include Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.
Additionally, the Clean Air Act requires all manufacturers to extend the warranty period for catalytic converters, onboard diagnostics, and engine computers to eight years or 80,000 miles.

2021 Honda Passport Warranty Extensions Available Upon Car Purchase
When you initially purchased your 2021 Passport, you could have purchased the Honda Care extended warranty, which pushes your coverage to up to eight years or 120,000 miles. If you’re not the original owner of the Passport, the warranty might have passed on to you, though the details will vary based on the warranty and dealership that sold the Passport.
2021 Honda Passport Extended Warranty Available Now

The following are some of the most frequently asked questions about the 2021 Honda Passport warranty:
The seat belt has an incredibly long warranty, covering 15 years or 150,000 miles. Assuming you don’t pass the mileage limit and bought your Passport in 2021, the seat belt warranty would expire in 2036. This warranty only applies to the functioning seat belt assembly and cannot be used for cosmetic or comfort upgrades.
Several of the Passport’s warranty coverage requirements necessitate proper vehicle operation, which includes driving the vehicle regularly and at reasonable speeds. You must also get regular maintenance following Honda’s recommended schedule.
If you buy a replacement battery from a Honda dealer, it comes with a Replacement 12-Volt Battery Limited Warranty. It lasts for 100 months, but only the first 36 months have 100% coverage. After that, Honda will provide a pro-rated credit toward the purchase of a new battery as follows:
- Months 37 to 45: 60%
- Months 46 to 55: 50%
- Months 56 to 65: 40%
- Months 66 to 75: 30%
- Months 76 to 85: 20%
- Months 86 to 95: 10%
- Months 96 to 100: 5%
Extended warranties have much to offer, despite the 2021 Honda Passport’s already generous Factory Warranty coverage. Soon, your Basic Warranty will expire, but you can extend the benefits and drive with peace of mind if you opt for an extended warranty now.
