What Your 2022 Honda Civic Warranty Covers

While the 2022 Honda Civic warranty offers incredible benefits to Civic owners, it doesn’t cover everything that might happen to your Civic. Factory Warranty

2022 Honda Civic Basic Warranty

The 2022 Honda Civic comes with a new vehicle limited warranty that starts when the first purchaser takes ownership of or leases the vehicle. It’s good for the first three years of ownership or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first, and covers the repair or replacement of parts that are defective because of material or manufacturing flaws.

The basic warranty doesn’t cover:

• Parts damaged from normal wear and tear
• Cleaning or polishing
•  Adding fluids , unless those fluids are necessary for warranted repairs
• Window glass chips or scratches that aren’t due to defective material
• Cosmetic flaws that aren’t due to defective material
• Items used in routine maintenance (brake pads, air filters, oil filters)
• Tires

The basic provides additional coverage for:

• Original equipment batteries for key fobs for the first six months of ownership
• Wiper blade inserts for the first six months of ownership
• Wheel balancing and alignment for one year or 12,000 miles
• Air conditioner refrigerant for two years or 24,000 miles

2022 Honda Civic Powertrain Warranty

The 2022 Honda Civic comes with a powertrain limited warranty that covers replacements or repairs for powertrain components that are defective because of material or manufacturing flaws. This warranty starts on the same day as the new vehicle limited warranty and is valid for five years or 60,000 miles.  Parts covered by the powertrain limited warranty are as follows:

• Engine (including timing gears, timing chain, and engine mounts)
• Transmission and transaxle (including the torque converter, control module, seals, and gaskets)
• Front-wheel-drive system (including final drive housing, driveshafts, front hubs, and bearings)

Corrosion Perforation Warranty

Original owners can take advantage of a rust perforation limited warranty that’s good for the first five years of ownership and unlimited mileage. The warranty covers repairs and replacements for body panels that have rusted through from the inside out. The rust perforation limited warranty doesn’t cover:

• Surface rust on the underbody or other vehicle parts, except for the body panels
• Body panels that have already been repaired or replaced
• Body panel rust caused by vehicle misuse or improper maintenance
• Rusting caused by paint damage
• Rusting caused by immersion in water, mud, or corrosive substances
• Paint matching for the entire vehicle

If your Civic has non-perforating rust resulting from material or manufacturing defects, the damage is covered under the new vehicle limited warranty.

Air Conditioning Warranty

There is no separate warranty for the air conditioning, but refrigerant is covered for two years by the new vehicle limited warranty, while defective components are covered for three years. You can extend coverage for the air conditioning and heating systems when you purchase a Honda care vehicle service contract. In some instances, the federal emissions warranty will cover repairs or replacements for air conditioner components.

Paint Warranty

There is no paint warranty. Only problems caused by a defect in material or workmanship at the factory will be covered under the basic warranty. Be sure to look for and point out any paint issues to the dealer upon purchasing your new 2022 Civic so that they can address them for you.

Battery Warranty

The battery is covered under a replacement 12-volt battery limited warranty good for 100 months. If your battery is defective and you purchase a replacement from an authorized Honda dealership, Honda will pay for the battery and installation during the first 36 months of coverage. For the remainder of the warranty, Honda will issue a pro-rated credit towards the purchase of a replacement battery, while the owner is responsible for installation costs.

Emissions Warranty

The Civic comes with a federal emissions warranty good for the first three years of ownership or 36,000 miles. Additionally, the Clean Air Act requires manufacturers to cover the catalytic converter, engine computer, and onboard diagnostic system for eight years or 80,000 miles.

If your Civic fails an EPA-approved emissions test because of part defects caused by material or manufacturing flaws, Honda will repair or replace the parts free of charge. The federal emissions warranty covers:

• Catalytic Converter
• Engine Computer
• Crankcase Control System
• Evaporative and Refueling Emissions Control Systems
• Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System
• Exhaust System
• Ignition System
• Fuel Injection System
• OBD System
• Transmission Control System
• Intake Air System
• Valve Control System
• Air Conditioning System
• Active Grille Shutter
• Active Seat Ventilation
