Understanding Your 2004 Honda CR-V Warranty

Honda offers outstanding warranties on its vehicles, including the original Factory Warranty (also called a Manufacturer’s Warranty) that came with new 2004 CR-Vs. We’re happy to provide the full details of the warranty coverage on your 2004 Honda CR-V so you have a full understanding of your coverage.

Keep in mind that warranty limits are often described in terms of time and mileage, such as “one year or 12,000 miles.” This means your coverage lasts up to one year, unless you exceed 12,000 miles before the year is up, which would cause the warranty coverage to end early.

Vehicle warranties come in many different varieties. Some cover just the drivetrain, while others offer full bumper-to-bumper coverage. Still others protect dealer-specific items. Some even cover emissions, tires, batteries, brakes, and more. For more information about your warranty, check out our frequently asked questions at the bottom of the page.

2004 Honda CR-V Basic Warranty

Honda’s 2004 CR-V Basic Warranty covered any necessary repairs and replacements for parts that were defective. Some individual parts may have had varying warranty coverage, but in general, the vehicle’s coverage was a three-year, 36,000-mile warranty. This warranty is now expired.

2004 Honda CR-V Powertrain Warranty

Honda did not offer a separate powertrain warranty. instead, your 2004 Honda CR-V powertrain was covered under the Basic Warranty for three years or 36,000 miles. This coverage included your engine, transmission, transaxle, and drivetrain. It was good for both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models. This warranty is now expired.

Corrosion Perforation Warranty

Honda offered five years of limited corrosion perforation coverage for the 2004 CR-V, with no mileage limit. The dealership would have repaired or replaced body panels that rusted all the way through from the inside out. This coverage has now expired.

Air Conditioning Warranty

Honda didn’t offer any specific warranty on air conditioning, though defective parts may have been covered. Your AC system’s refrigerant was covered only for the first year unless a covered AC component needed repair and the system needed recharging as a result.

Paint Warranty

There was no separate warranty for paint. The Basic Warranty only covered defects in material and workmanship from the factory.

Some CR-V models have had issues with their paint jobs. Unfortunately, the 2004 Honda CR-V was not subject to the extended paint warranty that covered 2007-2011 models. If you had issues with your paint job, you would have needed to cover them yourself.

Battery Warranty

The Honda CR-V’s warranty covered every vehicle’s original battery for the first three years. The first two years were fully covered. For the third year, you would have received a 50 percent credit toward purchasing a new battery. This warranty is now expired.

Tire Warranty

Tires were not covered under the Factory Warranty. The original tires received with the vehicle were warrantied by their manufacturer instead. When you purchase new tires, those tires may also have their own Manufacturer’s Warranty covering damage and defects.

Emissions Warranty

The three-year, 36,000-mile Federal Emissions Warranty on your 2004 CR-V covered your entire emissions control system and components. For 2004 CR-Vs in California, Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont, your emissions were covered for three years or 50,000 miles under the California Emissions Warranty.

In addition, the Clean Air Act required coverage for your engine computer, catalytic converter, and onboard diagnostics for eight years or 80,000 miles. All of this coverage has now expired.
