What Your 2016 Honda CR-V Warranty Covers
Every new Honda vehicle, including the 2016 Honda CR-V, comes with a Factory Warranty — also known as a Manufacturer’s Warranty. We know that car warranties can be confusing, which is why we’ve created this guide to help you understand what warranties still cover your CR-V and if they include components like paint, tires, and batteries.
The warranty durations in this guide are listed in time or mileage, whichever comes first. For example, if a warranty is valid for three years or 36,000 miles, that means it expires after three years or after you hit 36,000 miles in less than three years. The following is a snapshot of each warranty that Honda offers:
2016 Honda CR-V Factory Warranty Coverage: | |
Basic Warranty: | 3 years or 36,000 miles |
Powertrain Warranty: | 5 years or 60,000 miles |
Corrosion Perforation Warranty: | 5 years and unlimited miles |
Air Conditioning Warranty: | 2 years or 24,000 miles |
Battery Warranty: | 100 months and unlimited miles |
Emissions Warranty: | 3 years or 36,000 miles (50,000 miles in California) |
Roadside Assistance Coverage: | 3 years or 36,000 miles |
Total Unique Recalls: | 2 |

Factory Warranty
2016 Honda CR-V Basic Warranty
The 2016 Honda CR-V came with a three-year, 36,000-mile Manufacturer’s Warranty, also called the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, that covered repairs and replacements for parts that were defective under normal use. This warranty started on the original date of delivery or leasing. As of 2022, this warranty has now expired. Exclusions included damage caused by everyday wear and tear, cleaning and polishing services, and most window glass damage.
2016 Honda CR-V Powertrain Warranty
The 2016 Honda CR-V came with a five-year, 60,000-mile Powertrain Warranty that covered repairs and replacements for the engine, transmission, transaxle, front-wheel-drive system, and rear-wheel-drive system. As of 2022, this warranty has now expired.
Corrosion Perforation Warranty
The 2016 Honda CR-V came with a five-year, unlimited mileage Corrosion Perforation Warranty that covered repairs and replacements for any body panels rusted from the inside out. As of 2022, this warranty has now expired.
Air Conditioning Warranty
The 2016 Honda CR-V air conditioning system was covered under the Emissions Warranty, which was good for three years or 36,000 under the Federal Emissions guidelines or three years/50,000 miles in states that recognize California Emissions regulations. The air conditioner refrigerant was covered separately for two years or 24,000 miles, unless refrigerant was required as part of another A/C system repair. As of 2022, all of these air conditioning coverages have expired.
Paint Warranty

The 2016 Honda CR-V’s Manufacturer’s Warranty did not cover paint. The Corrosion Perforation Warranty did not cover rust caused by paint damage from road debris, and it did not cover paint matching.
Battery Warranty
The 2016 Honda CR-V has a 100-month Replacement Battery Warranty. For the first 36 months, the warranty covered the purchase of replacement batteries from an authorized Honda dealership and the installation costs. For the remaining 64 months, Honda applies a prorated credit of 5% to 60% for replacement batteries purchased from Honda dealerships.
Tire Warranty

Honda does not provide any warranty coverage for the 2016 CR-V’s tires. The tires that came as original equipment on your 2016 Honda CR-V are warrantied by their manufacturer in a separate warranty statement provided by the dealership.
Emissions Warranty
The 2016 Honda CR-V came with a three-year, 36,000-mile Federal Emissions Warranty that covered the repair and replacement of emissions system components. In California and other specific states, the coverage lasted for up to 50,000 miles under the California Emissions Warranty. As of 2022, both emissions warranties have now expired.
However, under the Clean Air Act, Honda must cover the catalytic converter, engine computer, and onboard diagnostics for eight years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first. If you have less than 80,000 miles on your CR-V, your vehicle still qualifies for this coverage, and Honda will help your CR-V comply with emissions standards for free if it fails an EPA-approved emissions test.

2016 Honda CR-V Warranty Extensions Available Upon Car Purchase
Before your Factory Warranty expired, you could have purchased the Honda Care plan from a Honda dealership. This warranty extension covered the repair and replacement of several components, including the engine, electrical systems, and air conditioning, for up to eight years or 120,000 miles.
Honda Care plans are transferrable to subsequent owners and might still be in effect for your CR-V. Contact your local Honda dealership, provide them with your CR-V’s VIN and mileage, and they can let you know if you still have coverage.
2016 Honda CR-V Extended Warranty Available Now
You can no longer purchase a Honda Care plan for your 2016 Honda CR-V because the original Factory Warranty has already expired. However, several third-party providers offer warranty extensions.
