Code P0101: Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor Malfunction points to an issue with the MAF sensor, which tracks air intake for the engine. Any deviation in normal oxygen flow measurement triggers the code and a check engine light. This can happen due to a dirty or defective MAF sensor, a leak in a vacuum line or air intake hose, a malfunctioning engine control module/powertrain control module, or a failing catalytic converter. While driving with a P0101 code is okay, the problem should be corrected as soon as possible (days, not weeks). Otherwise, there’s a risk of driving a poor-performing car (a safety hazard) or damaging the engine or catalytic converter.
